Nice car (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LANCIA-RALLY-037-STRADALE-ONE-OWNER-ONLY-5458-KM_W0QQitemZ4627437382QQcategoryZ18305QQssPageName ZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) - Could be cheaper than building a replica Stratos these days

I remember one just like that in the classifieds of Classic and Sportscar for just under £20,000.

Way too overpriced, especially for an auction car...

For such a pristine example, I'd pay that if I had the cash. Just as special as a Strat IMO.

Some really nice pictures of the engine bay/rear suspension etc. on the web page.
Could not help thinking how much like a Corse "I" it all looks at the back.
Did Steve Greenwood get his inspiration from Abarth or vice versa!

Possibly more so in my book (it's a proper lancia engine after all!!) and as to value.... closer to a new one I don't think you'll get. £100K might be closer to the mark?

I had a really lovely Series 1 Monte many years ago and when the 037 came out I fell in love - a proper butch version of my baby sports car. Too many cars, not enough money.......
Hard to imagine finding a more original version than that one. Must keep an eye and see what it ends up making. Never know, might win the lottery one day. Then again, maybe I could persuade Martin K to build me one of his cars :D

The idea of the car that Martin makes (with proper north/south in line engine/box) is great, but I wonder if people would go for a Monte shaped kit similar to a Stratos kit. A kit that takes ALL of the mechanicals from a Monte but gets rid of the rust factor. You could either make it look like a standard Monte or an 037 look-alike with the wide arches/split rims etc. I reckon a one donor car like that would work? There's such a good specialist supplier for Monte parts too, in the Monte Hospital. Oh,.. and a car like that might dodge SVA!
If anyone goes into production, can I have royalties!?

Hell yeah, I'd have one over a Strat to be honest  Must be careful, talk like that'll get me into trouble :D Any weblinks for the 037 replicas???????

It was September 2001, price had been reduced probably for a quick sale? Here it is:

Strewth...that's cheap. Wonder what it was like? Gotta wonder why it needed extensive work after only 5k miles though.....

Cost a lot to clock it?

I'm thinking it was the age rather than the mileage. It was 18 years old in 2001 - most of the rubber bits and gaskets might be suspect by that time. I know my Montecarlo engine didn't seem to appreciate being roused after a 15 year slumber...

The same advert appeared in the January 2001 issue with the car priced at £24,900, which you'd think was fairly robust pricing to sell, but obviously it didn't work? It's hard to turn cars into cash quick, isn't it?

Watch this space.... but no royalties I'm afraid as we have been working on this for a while!
The centre section will probably be of composite construction with front and rear tubular subframes.
If anyone has artistic talents and would like to submit styling ideas for the car, which will use the same wheelbase as a Monte but possibly with wider track - then I'd be interested to hear from you.

Interesting idea Martin. Having seen some of Vojx' sketches and drawings, and what he's been doing with his Strat he might be your man for some styling ideas. Talented bloke. You might not find him here often but he can be found lurking on either PistonHeads or Madaboutkitcars

I was thinking something that you could hang ALL the mechanical (and other) parts from one Monte donor onto, with no need for any special parts. 'Just something that makes it as easy as possible to build the car?

Not even a pair of new driveshafts and a Beta steering rack as 'extras'?
It is planned that everything else original would fit the new chassis, but the wider track will make a better car than the original.
