View Full Version : Twin Caliper mounts

I'm in the middle of changing the (modified from standard) caliper mounts on my Hawk rear uprights back to standard (for the time being).
It doesn't matter about frying the wheel bearings during this process (because I'm fitting new ones). So I thought while I've got the chance, I might as well put some extra caliper mounting lugs/brackets on the back too. 'Not quite sure what to make them fit though?
Does anyone know what calipers the twin brackets on the new type Hawk uprights are made to fit?

Hi Chris,
I was told they are made for the standard Alfa 164 callipers. There were some spacers supplied with the kit too.
They fit but there needs to be grinded a little bit material of the callipers where they contact the mounts.
Maybe you can choose this way where to place the callipers, in front or at the rear of the disc  Does that make any difference??
On the 164 they were at the rear if i remember correctly.
Cheers

Thanks Pim. They DO look the same back and front? I wouldn't know without looking at the photos on your website. Otherwise I wouldn't know how the kit has evolved.
I ought to put similar brackets/lugs on the back of the upright, before the chance has gone. Well, without trashing another set of bearings, bearing retaining rings etc.

I'm changing the rear hubs again, on another Hawk, (the orange one).
I never had two sets of caliper lugs welded to the previous car's uprights as it turned out (see beginning of this thread). I now have this window of opportunity again to have double lugs on the rear uprights of this car, but I'm not sure what type of calipers to make them fit?
I won't need the double lugs straight away, but having them would give more scope for caliper upgrades in the future. 'Could make them the same as the rear lugs on the current Hawk rear uprights I suppose?

I'll probably go for this option, unless anyone has any bright ideas? Can't remember what type of caliper John H. has sat on the back of his rear uprights? I'm sure he'll remind me? Oh, and what disc diameter for the rear? (for a V6).

Rears are 166 four pot brembos, same as the front  Still need a handbrake caliper though but i reckon i can fit one on the same mounting bracket with a bit of messing about. Still got to investigate the plate behind pad method that one of the kit manufacturers use, supposedly SVA friendly  Discs also the same, alfa 164, just forget the offsets though. Do you want me to check?

No it's ok John. There's basically only one place the lug can go. Any in and out spacing can be done with shims/spacers when (if) the time comes.
So, on your's, is it 305mm discs all round?
Do most people have 284mm vented discs on the front with Alfa single pot calipers?

285 discs all round. Although the 166 caliper fits a 305 mm disc on the 166, it sits very nicely over the 285 mm 164 vented version and gives enough clearance to the rim.
