Exhaust now finished. Pic attached for info.

Now been remapped gives a healthy 208bhp - at the wheels. Needed two of us sitting on the rear chassis members to stop wheelspin.
Out of interest The manifolds glow happily within a very short time on a power run.

Next stop Cadwell on Sunday 19th for a shakedown/test, 1st race Silverstone on the 26th.

If any of you already have the Hawk stainless exhaust system (at great cost, admittedly, but mine is now over ten years old and still works fine), different 'link pipes' are required to go between the 24v manifolds and the main silencer body.

I had mine modified by Gerry's fabricator, and he now has patterns to make exhausts to this specification.

Picture below shows the modified link pipes for the 24v installation:

No heat wrap?

Sounds like it would be a good idea on these tubular manifolds.

May have to fit some onto my car, having spoken to Roger.

Will also try to cut down the forward exhaust shield at bit more so that it can go onto the car - it is rather bulky and fouls the Hawk gear linkage.

Another job on the list......

4 pipes coming out of nearside of silencer

Each exhaust secondary goes into the silencer, out the other end, through a 180 degree turn, back through the silencer then out 90 degrees to a tailpipe/megaphone.

That's right, the single large silencer casing effectively contains four sets of baffles. The two banks of the exhaust each go through the silencer twice, from left-to-right and vice-versa.

I notice the two manifolds remain separate, is there anything to be gained or lost by having a balance tube between them? E.g. Hp or the right noise?

Any advice?

Steve

IIRC, the balance tube needs to be a distance down the system from the manifolds, and our systems just ain't that long!

The two three-into-one manifolds have no real need of being linked later in the exhaust system as there is no real advantage and certain disadvantages if you put a link pipe in the wrong place.

With only three cylinders connected together there is no chance of an exhaust pulse from one cylinder reaching the exhaust valve of either of the other cylinders while the valve is open. This is a good thing.

By connection both manifolds together, it is certain that at some engine speed an exhaust pulse from one bank will reach an open exhaust valve on the other bank, thus damaging exhaust flow, so I think it's best to not fit a link pipe.
