I can't see any mention of weight limits for rally cars in the Blue book. Sure I must be missing it - can someone point me in the right direction?

Seems there aren't any!

Try the Scottish Championship site Chris, This year they are weighing all cars at scruitineering. We got a bit of a surprise when the wee Daihatsu came in a 805 kg. Nice fancy set of corner weight scales they used as well.

Chris,

There aren't any - UNLESS, you have a car which falls under the special technical regulations.

AND, these apply to cars over 2.5ltr with more than 2valves per cylinder.

There is on Scottish Championship rounds this year see site mentioned above and I am told that even if you are not Registered for the championship your car must comply.

As far as I am aware, there are no such limits on events south of the border, but I'll try and verify that in the next few days.

Even more reason to stay 12v then.

Fairly sure you are correct Dave, Its been introduced in Scotland because of complaints about certain individuals and world rally cars. Pain in the Arse for me on my local events unless I fit my special 2.5 litre engine ;)

Just that there seems to be a selection of engines lying at the house some of which are more solid than others :)

Ps Dave now my Allora has part of your original car carefully grafted into its side can we call it son of Allora :D

Where is that stated Dave - I thought that too, but I can't find it in the 2006 Blue Book.

I haven't sent off for my 2006 licence yet, so don't have a copy of the 2006 Blue Book.

If I recall correctly, it is hidden away somewhere, and you only really know about by reading the Technical Regs for K37.1.3 cars.

I'll try and look through my 2005 blue book tomorrow, and see if I can come up with something.

K37.1 seems to have been rewritten this year - (I think that what its grey box means) It says approval guidelines are available from MSA - maybe that's what I need to get hold of.
Might have to run on 5 cylinders. ;)

You need to be aware of K 37.1.2 a, and b. I am in the process of getting my car logbooked for rallying and I have had long discussions with the MSA as to how to get my car approved. and to what category it would fall under. Any car that falls outside the scope of the above reg would have to be approved by an engineer nominated by the MSA and also an international level scrutineer and I have been led to believe that any such car would very, very likely fail to meet the requirements as it falls outside all of all of their new rules.
K 37 was rewritten to remove bike engine cars. as these fall well outside the construction and use guidelines.

hope this helps.

I'm waiting for the MSA to send me the approval guidelines for K37.1.2c - I ordered it and a roll cage certificate from them last week and they sent me 200 club membership cards! I'll see what this week brings...

Can you place a copy on the forum Chris, please :)
Looking at the 2006 blue book there is no K37.1.2c Think it is now K37.1.3 that applies

You're right, K37.1.3 it is.

Here's a link to a pdf of the Approval guidelines.

Thanks Chris,
It all looks a bit scarry and i see pound notes heading to the MSA in handfuls.
If I read right fuel tanks may be a big issue in the Hawk, what do you think?
FIA approved seats as well, more pound notes :(

Yes, looks costly £157 + £27+ £40.
I've just skimmed through it, but wondered about the fuel tanks. The 1060kg weight limit is a pisser too. 5 cylinders = 2.5L.......hmmm.....
I suspect a lot is up to the Technical commisioner who inspects it. the guy that came and inspected mine part way through the build was enthusiastic to see it rallying though.
Did you understand the diagrams?
Steve, your email address didn't work for me - have you a new one?

Your OK with 12v anyway Steven, it's the >2.5L & >2valves per cylinder that upsets them.

Aye Chris, reread the blue book the other night and as you say 4 valve heads on over 2.5 the real problem. Still a weight issue in Scotland so may stick to 2.5L
Sprint on at Golspie tomorrow may take a run up and talk to my local scruit again.
