Not the type you're looking for, but it shows the difference between secondhand values of 289 and Stratos kits. This one is SVA'd.

Not an expert on Cobras although I look through the kit cars frequently. I'd say that this was a bit of a steal even with an incomplete interior. Usual Hawk quality I expect.

Yes Peter, the quality of the 289 kits will be as good, but compare the starting prices:
Hawk 289 (inc VAT) £5516.63
Hawk HF3000 (inc VAT) £11,103.75
That's for an HF3000 without spoilers. Even then, it's twice the price!

Next time you are at a show have a look at the 289!
Chassis is a simple twin rail design with a few outriggers and subframes.
Body is a one piece moulding with no awkward shapes so the moulds come in 3 or 4 parts to make the whole body. After that it's moulds for doors, boot and bonnet. Just think of the number of moulds needed for the Stratos - it's much more labour intensive!
The other saving grace for Gerry is the number of each model he sells. Lots of 289, 427s etc = big discount with bulk orders and he can store flat chassis easier than multiple Stratos chassis.

Guy
I know the Cobra type of car are/is a much better bet for the kit manufacturer. Also, if the builder sells the car on, he/she is more likely to get (a little of) their money back. Cobras make more sense all round?
I can't say sense and Stratos replica in the same sentence, can I?
