Can anyone offer advice about how to change vehicle details with DVLA, I am one of those people who had stratos replica registered as Lancia Beta HPE, with modifications.

Car was registered in 1993, and used and taxed for next 6 years.

I am about to put the car back on the road after 6 years!!, but need to inform DVLA about the engine change. Obviously I want to retain the existing registration plate.

If I write to them informing them of the changes with details on the back of the V5 document, will this be enough? or is there anything else I need to do?
Can I ask that the car is registered as a Hawk H.F. 3000?
Is there any danger that they will refuse, and give me a 'Q'?

Sorry there are so many questions, but this seems quite a tricky area.

Any help gratefully appreciated.

Dave

There has been some discussion on previous threads about this. I'm no expert, so I can't advise. You could also try asking on Pistonheads Gassing Station Kitcar forum.

Hi Dave, you have to register the engine change with DVLA to show the new engine number and capacity.
When you say it's registered as a Lancia Beta HPE with modifications does this mean that a DVLA Inspector saw the car at first registration in 1993? If that's the case, and you have documents to prove it then you don't need to fear being put through an SVA test. I can't guarantee that they might not want to put the car on a Q plate but if it's got previous history recorded with them I think it highly unlikely. I think I'd leave well alone so long as you informed them at the first registration.
If it's registered as a Lancia Beta HPE and DVLA aren't aware of it then you may have a problem if the MOT inspector knows the difference between a Lancia Stratos and a Lancia HPE. It's probably worth going back to the same station you got the last MOT at. They will probably remember the car.
As a final note this may affect the salablility of the car should you ever wish to part with it.
Good luck with the MOT! It'll be nice to have another ont he road again in this neck of the woods!

Have you asked AndyR about this?, because he had the same problem as you and managed to get round it and avoid the SVA.

Remember this thread?:

I'd be interested to know how you get on because I'm going to be in the same boat* too. *That is, Stratos replicas that were used and usually registered as Betas but not inspected during the amnesty period (1997?).

I need to get my car mot'd before I can progress, but it sounds as if you're nearer to starting the process than I am?

Thanks for the advice Guy, I decided to inform DVLA of the engine change and received new V5, Car was registered as rebodied Lancia beta at first registration in 1993. Passed MOT last week, Taxed online tonight, on the road tomorrow!! :D

I will attempt to get log book changed with correct details throughout this year, and update again as to how this goes.

Well done Dave.
Out of interest how long did it take for the V5 change to come back?

cheers

Dave, if it's registered as a rebodied Lancia back in 1993 I'd leave it at that. To my mind that is legally registered so loong as the DVLA had a look/were informed and had the opportunity to inspect at the time.
Hope to see you around soon - how about Oulton Park Kit Car Action Day?

Sando - V5 came within a week! - very quick.

Guy - I'd really like to go to the Oulton Park day, when is it? I have to get the car running better first, so am taking it to be tuned to WGT in Northwich, have you heard of them?

But yes, hope to see you around soon.

Dave,
Oulton Park is on the 25th March. Napiersport at least will be there ( Don't know about Gerry/Hawk )
WGT have a good reputation I know and have been going for some years now.
If it's running just right then come down to Oulton. We have a track pass and for a donation to Jerry Bailey's charity appeal we might let you loose on the track for a lap or three.
I take it you are all trimmed up and everything now. When I came to see you a year or two ago you were in the middle of having the interior trimmed.
If out and about today watch out for the snow!
