Chrome headlamp retaining rings

...for the Carello mounts are held in place by 3 small screws. On mine, there is a gap of about 8mm between the ring and the mount which the screws are too small to bridge. Are these wee screws really secure enough to hold the lens in place? I'm thinking of replacing them with rivnuts in the mount and 3mm bolts. Any comments or suggestions?

Never lost a light yet to one of these failing! They are usuall rusted solid mind!

The threads in my mounts turned out to be standard 3mm ones, so rather than screw a self tapper into them, I've used a machine screw. Another job nearer completion.... :)
