All,

I'm trying to figure out which type of seat to put in my car. After trying out a few different cars at Abingdon, I'm leaning in the direction of a competition style seat from Sparco (or similar).

Anybody know which model fits in a Hawk with the door pockets installed?

On a related note, do these seats come in different sizes, and does anyone remember offhand what size their seats are?

Thanks,

I used the Sparco racing seats out of my old Gp A rally car and was surprised to find just how unsuitable they were!!
The modern upright and close-to-the wheel racing position does not suit the low roof and laid-down cockpit (unless you're only 5ft tall!) and I ended up doing a fair bit of fibreglassing to get them comfortable, especially with a helmet on.
You will probably also find that if you want them adjustable, many runner kits are made to fit under the seat body (making them too high again) which involves using S-shaped brackets to put them at the sides.
Unless you're desperately overweight, the door pockets are no threat, but you'll probably want the seats as close up to the centreline as you can get, without seat-belt ancorage problems.

Not sure about the 'desperately overweight' comment

But I have some Sparco Evo seats in my Hawk and they would not fit without taking a small amount off the door pockets so that they are not quite so wide.

The seats are fitted close to the (offset) centre spine of the car but the mod was still needed on both pockets. Easy to do though.

I think this will depend on the shape of the chosen seat, as it is the 'wings' in the middle part of the seat the clash and other seats may not have this problem. I also mounted the seats back as far as possible for the legroom I wanted, which again may not show up with other seat positions. (PS, I'm six foot one tall).

I've been looking at seats recently too. The Demon tweeks paper catalogue gives the dimensions of the Sparco seats. I'm sure that I've seen the Rev and Evoseats in cars here in the UK.

Motordrive also make seats here in different widths etc. try half way down this page for an idea of sizes involved

Obviously, one of the things you need to be sure of when ordering seats is not just that they fit in the car, but that you also fit in the seats and will be comfortable with them.

The best thing to do in this case is, naturally, to try sitting in as many seats as you can before making your decision. I found that the best place to do this (in the UK) was at the Autosport show, which is held at the NEC each January.

I think it's around the 11th January this coming year. All the major manufacturers tend to have stands there (Momo, Sparco, Corbeau, Cobra, etc) and a number of suppliers have these and alternatives (i.e. Motordrive).

Even if you don't want seats - this is a really good show to go along to if you are interested in almost any form of motorsport.

John's right - the Autosport Show in early January is an excellent place to see things and talk to people.

You can see and talk to people about seats, wheels, tyres, ECU, brakes, cams, racewear, and much, much more.

Definitely worth the trip.

As regards seats, I have OMP Eco seats fitted to my car. Plenty of room around them, and they are large enough even for me!!

Hi Scott, the seats in my car are OMP Vid2 on Momo side mounts, they fitted just fine without fouling the door trays. I'm not sure if these seats are still available, they aren't in the current Demon Tweeks catalogue but there are alternatives out there. The passenger side will be tighter due to the asymmetric chassis though. Look for something with low sides by your hips.
