Unfinished Project to build a fast Road or Race Group 4 Stratos

As many of you know, we're moving back to the UK, and therefore at least one of my cars will need to be sold to release some capital. So regrettably, the project I bought from Jerry Bailey (His next chariot to win everything he enters!!) is up for sale.

Price - I want 11,000 GBP for it for 3 reasons:

- That's what I paid Jerry for it, which was a very fair price.
- I'll up-spec what's on offer with many other bits and pieces.
- I'm donating 500GBP from the sale price to Jerry's Cancer Charity.
(Gerry sold the car was because of his son Robbie's fight with Cancer.)

So I hope that someone on the forum who's been looking for the right car for a while will snap up this bargain so I can also give something back to those in need.....

Here's the spec of the car:

- Early Transformer car with a Spyder chassis. (1989) (Long- term project that remained in-complete)
- All body panels are fitted and painted white, with fireproof bulkhead, spoilers and windscreen installed
- Supplied with standard Alfa 164 3.0L 24V V6 engine and gearbox, on standard Fiat/ Lancia transmission
- Engine is mechanically fitted, but requires all other system connections. (Cooling, Electrical, Minor mechanical)
- Hubs and Brakes are standard Fiat 124 / Lancia Beta 4 stud, with standard struts and shock absorbers
- Dashboard / Instrument panel is fitted, wired and the tacho is supplied been re-calibrated for 24V engine
- Lights have all been wired and assembled, but the rear light fittings are not completely installed
- The interior is mostly un-finished, and needs the majority of the work involved in finishing the car
- Car is obviously not yet registered, but comes with a V5 document, and the builder could prepare it for SVA
- Supplied with all major components required to complete the build (except minor hoses, cables, etc.> Budget c.£300)

(Some possibility for buyer to “up-spec” the package with choice of wheels and tyres, spare parts, etc.)

- Estimate you would require a budget of £6-8K over 3-6 month period to get car completed, depending on level of finish required, and time devoted to it...

- This project is currently stored with a UK builder (Chris Smith) who would probably be willing to do the work, including SVA, should you wish to proceed immediately.

- Available in the UK for immediate foc delivery, and / or ready to start remaining build activity with this reputable Stratos builder.

- Pictures available on request, or you can look at the pictures posted when Gerry sold it. It's not been touched since then...

Note - If the car is not sold within 2 weeks, then I'm going to advertise the car in more mainstream channels, and I'm sure it'll "disappear" outside the club.

Nico/

Hi,
Just wanted to bring this back up to the top of the list.

Car is still for sale, although talking to several interested parties......

The car is currently stored at Chris Smith's Garage, ready for further work if the buyer wants to use his expertise to get the car finished professionally at a resonable cost...

However, if I don't receive an offer by this Friday, then the car will be moved to my new home in Scotland, and then advertised in a couple of specialist magazines.

I'm hoping to hear from someone soon, and just to remind you 500 GBP from the sale will be donated to the Children's Charity that is being supported by Jerry Bailey's family.

Kind regards,
Nico/

You say most components included in the sale, budget around £300 for the extras but then you say that £6-8k should finish it. I'm not nit picking but how is this. I expect a decent car to cost £20k to build. I'm a possibly interested in the one that was on Ebay last week as a finished car (it belonged to my friend prior to this and I've been kicking myself for the last year for not going £1k over my budget!). I'm hunting for info at the moment, just wondered about the costs you mentioned. Where in the country is the car located?

PS sorry I should introduce my self, I'm Phil Matthews, West Midlands based, current cars include 309 road rally car, integrale 8v; needs welding!, 205 1900 road car, A6 daily towcar and Ducati Superlight. .. ..

Hi Phil,
Welcome to the forum.

The package contains all the parts you need except for around 300 GBP of "consumable" and other bits and pieces. (Rubber hoses, Clips, Aluminium tubes for cooling system, etc.) If you did all the work yourself, and were satified with the all the work that's been done on it to date, this is the approximately minimum value of parts to get it running.....

However, the 6-8K depends on who does the all the "fettling" to get all the parts to really"sing" together, and then to get the car through it's SVA, Registration, and finally on the road!! As you can imagine, getting the "sum of parts" to work together takes time, experience, and patience. If you want to avoid a very steep learning curve, pay someone else to do this tricky piece of work, and hence the 6-8K GBP...(Otherwise please take my advice and buy a running, sorted, registered example....)

You might also want to invest in a livery paint job, upgrade some of the standard parts, etc. If you do go ahead and buy one of these cars, expect the car to be never really finished. Sure you'll be able to drive it and enjoy it, but you'll always be looking to upgrade something, add better spotlights, improve the braking and cooling system, etc.

The car is currently in a workshop near Lutterworth (Just off Junction 20 on the M1) and is avaialble to be viewed this weekend coming.

Hope this is enough information, otherwise please feel free to contact me via a PM on the site, or using chairman@stratclub.com
