Has anybody come up with an elegant alternative to the bit of wood to prop the bootlid open? Or is that as good as it gets?

Chris S's Corse twin gas strut arrangement is very snazzy.
Just a long rod with a cheap small rose joint mounting and some sort of non damaging cap on the other end to lodge in the corner of the boot lid might work well?

Ive got a single gas ram on mine. Think i might even have a spare ram in the garage.
May also have the 'caravan window' strut that was on the car originally.
will look tonight if i get time.
Cheers

I think Gerry Hawkridge offers a strut exactly as you described, although it's probably a bit pricier than knocking one up yourself.
Personally, I was tempted to try mounting a bootlid stay from an X1/9, since the Hawk lid is so light anyway. This would require a couple of additional brackets, though.

If you are going to use a gas strut remember to use a low pressure type otherwise you may end up with a rather bent or broken boot lid :o

Indeed! I used a couple of small adjustable ones mounted on the hinges. Seem to work well enough and don't get in the way when accessing the huge luggage storage area.....
I'll try and get a picture posted if anyone is interested. Got the struts from RS - bit pricey I suppose but I made up for it by getting 4 stronger, larger ones (for front & rear body) off e-bay for £5 the lot :)

Lancia did not provide anything in this field for the Stratos, known for its little provision for creature comforts....

Cheap? Tick :)
Light? Tick :)
Simple? Tick :)
Easily obtainable? Tick :)
Reliable? Tick :)
It'll have to be the stick then. ;)
Might have to put some go-faster stripes or fancy stickers on it though.
