I have an old type V5 form from the donor Beta but it's not in my name, to use it to prove the age for the SVA does it need to be in my name?

Good question Brent,
I would say that you have to prove in some way that the vehicle belonged to you or that you had permission from the owner to use it. Otherwise, there would be no way of proving it wasn't stolen.
Just my opinion though. I'd be interested to hear the official line though.

Brent,
Given you have the V5 and the donor car, and as Mick says, assuming you have some form of proof of ownership, why not send the V5 to DVLA to get the change of ownership properly recorded? Just don't forget to SORN it even if all that remians of the car is an engine and a few bits....
I never got a receipt for my donor and it wasn't even registerd to the bloke I bought it off, but I sent the V5 to DVLA to register it in my name anyway and there were no problems. Later, I also had to send the V5 back to DVLA to register the change of engine number as I'd changed it from a 1600 to a 2l. Come registration time, I just put a covering note in explaining that I hadn't got a receipt and they didn't seem to mind.
SVA only cares that the engine number matches the V5 for proof of engine age and hence emissions standard to apply.
DVLA come registration time cares that it's not nicked and that the parts claimed to come from the donor actually do (if applicable). Hard to prove or disprove really given that the only item with a serial recorded on the V5 is the engine. Some inspectors really know their beans and will quickly recognise if parts are properly partnered or not. The bloke who inspected mine knew his stuff and I clocked him checking all the things that would give the game away had I been trying something untoward.

Thanks for your veiws on this guys.
I will send in the old V5 form for change of owner & address and see if what happens.
The only problem I can see is that the V5 should have been replaced with the V5C in July 2005.

I don't see how that can be a problem, regardless of whether a car is on the road or not. I've got an 'old style' log book for one of my cars. Don't recall them writing to tell me it had to be replaced, so I haven't changed it.
