Could any of you with Hawk/Transformers provide me with the measurement from the transverse upper chassis tube (engine bay bulkhead) to the centre of the bush, on the alfa v6 motor where the engine steady bar mounts. I would have asked for the length of the steadybar itself but i have welded my own mounts in and they would probably not be the same as stock.

Hi John
Aren't there several different steady bar - engine mountings? are you talking your 12v or 24v? I've just had to shorten my hawk steady bar to fit the Kappa mounting, but you did say this was a bit different to the standard 164's but more similar to the 156 / GTV. I can measure in the morning for you if you want, but may not be same as your engine mount...
I thought making it to fit a measurement was a bit risky so I made mine to fit when the engine was last in situ, and just tacked everything in position, much easier that way!
What do you think of the hawk bush?, I thought it was a bit on the small side, so cut that off for a bigger bush as well.
cheers
Rob

This is the best way of doing it.
I'll try & email you some diagrams John

never even got a bush! along with brake pipe brackets and a few other odds and ends.

i just wanted to make sure the engine is sat correctly. I didn't know if it made any difference for oil in the cam boxes etc. It looks about right. I don't seem to have the same clearance for arb that others have, if its a problem i'll knock up some other brackets and weld em in higher. That should be better for me headers etc.

Niki has the front end in for prep tomorow. Doors are ready, lamp pod ready, just the rear louvre to finish. Can't stop meself from caressing me back end!! All smooth and shiny ;) :D To say it hasn't been polished yet, it looks bloody great. Just have to touch in the panel edges cos its real difficult trying to paint something 4-5 mm thick with the spray gun. The boot lid is polished, the finish is as good as i've seen anywhere.

I have seen a car using the original steady bar from the Alfa 164, I think it was Bert va de Meer's car. Here's a picture.

Best regards,

Chris j,

that is ralph, the randy jack russell. So far he hasn't chewed the bodywork or even tried cocking his leg up on it. When he was a pup, the muppett, ralph and myself visited the father outlaw one sunday evening. I tend to sit on the floor at home or friends houses(find it more comfy)That evening the dog was pacing up and down, walked straight up,cocked his leg up and pished on me. Muppett and outlaw cried laughing but i had my revenge. About five minutes later he coolly hopped onto the sofa, cocked his leg up and pished on the muppett. Her and father outlaw weren't very amused, i thought it was hilarious seen as though he managed to winkel on the sofa as well. As they say, all comes to he who waits!! :D :D

Chris R,

Could you measure your engine steady bar, engine end mounting centre, up to the top chassis rail in front of the engine, chassis rail rather than the mounting. I have welded a mount in but not sure if the bolt hole is further in or out than yours.
