Hi,
Stratos replica wanted
Depends on how much you want one.
How much do you want to pay?

Denis Jones's Pirelli Grp4, complete with Ferrari 246 engine is up for sale – details in the latest Auto Italia – but won’t be cheap !!.

Buy it and sell the potentially wallet crippling (but valuable) engine?
Is this where Tryphon tells me that 246 engines are as reliable as any other if serviced properly?

Certainly I'm not rich...

How do you think it can cost? ;)

In my opinion: For a fully built, correctly registered Hawk with Alfa V6 you should be expecting to pay something around £20,000 - but that also depends on how keen the owner is to sell.
Completed cars (of all types) have certainly sold for much less than that, but it really does depend on circumstances of both the buyer and the seller, as well as condition, specification and history of the car concerned.
Denis Jones' Pirelli car looked fantastic when I saw it some years back, and with the Dino engine in it, the car is definitely worth somewhat more than an Alfa-engined car. How much more? That again depends on how keen he is to sell, and how much someone wants to have the near-ultimate replica.

That Pirelli car was for sale at Abingdon this year, with a price tag of £26k, if my memory is correct. I think Graham Bates GB Engineering) had some details and pix on his stand.
Sounds pretty good as long as the engine is good. However someone told me that it sounded very rough last time he saw it.

I can count more road ready cars selling for under £15k than over £20k. With new kits now costing £10k or £11k, it's unfortunate, but that's the reality.
It's a good job they're not built to make a profit?

That does seem to have been the case for a number of kits sold in the UK.
That may be somewhat undervalued for most, but that is the problem with trying (or needing) to sell a car into a limited market. It's not like having an original, where the value can appreciate due to rarity.
Agree on point about building cars for profit - it hasn't worked as a good business model for many people in the kit industry who have tried it...

Which is why Henry invented the production line. ;)
