Hi, i'm a webmaster of website about Polish rally car of `70 called StratoPolonez: it's Lancia Stratos engine in body of FSO Polonez.

www.stratopolonez.pl

It was build by OBRSO after Jaroszewicz crushed his Lancia Stratos...
Stratos during the Rally of Poland 1976:

StratoPolonez on Track Kielce in 1978:

And how the StatoPolonez looks now, after a reperations (~20 years of standing in not too good conditions of museum):

Now the chassis is OK, but the engine should be partly rebuilt on high-performance parts, because now it can't be reved high - danger of blowing up the Ferrari Dino unit is too high.
Unfortunately, one gear is smashed up...

The website has been made to collect money for parts essential to make this rally car come back on tracks - museum owning it has no money to do it on its own :(

Next week there will be an article in local newspaper - i'm looking for hi-resolution (or in .cdr format) logo "STRATOS" to make a header like on the website, but i can't find it anywhere :(
Does anybody have a logo, or, even better, a font used in "STRATOS" sign?
Greetings from Poland, Zbyszek

The Stratos name, and maybe the logo (I don't know) is copyrighted by Christian Hrablek, who is behind the Phenomenon Stratos concept car.

Looking at the trade mark registrations site, I could find that he has definitely registered the 'stylised word' (i.e. the italicised graphic text) but does not seem to have the name itself as a trade mark for vehicular use.

Could have missed something on the search, but this graphic is certainly lodged as his intellectual/commercial property at present.

Personally, I cannot see how he could have got away with this - since the logo has been used previously so therefore is not new, and is not/was not his to register. But the officers that deal with trade mark and patent registrations are piss-poor at doing any prior art checks.

If someone were to spend money on raising a legal challenge, they would almost certainly succeed in overturning his registration (imho), but why bother? At least Hrabalek has a real interest in the car and its history (as well as a commercial interest in re-using the name).

Flip side would be that if he were to prosecute someone for mis-use of the logo, he could well lose the case and his registration - but that would require the defendant risk the up-front legal costs of their defence; and who could affort that against a well-funded individual?

At the end of the day, there are copyright issues with all logos and images that we use on our cars. So long as the intention is not to mis-sell, mis-represent, mislead or to make a commercial gain, one would hope not to be sued. This doesn't mean you have permission, though, on a legal basis.

Thanks for feedback :)
My graphic made something like this: http://www.x-trim.info/upload/up/pliki/StratoPOLONEZ.gif
I hope there will be no problems, it non-commercial usage of STRATOS fragment of logotype :)

Somehow I don't think you'll be causing any problems with your use of the text.
Hey, you're not even using the full logo! And it is referring to an original Stratos (well, part of one at least).

I might have some photos of the Jaroszewicz Stratos when he came to the 1976 Cyprus International Rally,(he retired while leading by a long way...), but I have to find them, scan them, then post them in the gallery... this might take a long time...
