Hi,

Does anyone have a rough drawing of the Corse engine bay to hand, I'm after the dimensions of the engine bay 'box' and the position of the driveshafts are in relation to this :)

Cheers,
Graeme.

Which version Graeme? I or S I can help if it's an S.

Ah, will most likely be the I but the dimensions on the S should be pretty similar no? Just revised suspension pickup points?

'Fraid not.. The S and I are completely and utterly different!

Ah, guess it's the I information I'm after then!

The difficulty with measuring the 'I' is that there are various chassis tubes and beams running obliquely on all sides. It's not a neat sqaure box that you slot a square engine into. The gearbox pokes though on one side, the ancillaries at the other. It would be easier to measure an Alfa V6 and say that it only just fits in!

Hmm, just really after the width side to side, length from bulkhead to rear chassis rail and the relative position of the drivehshaft/hub line on this. I have two engine configurations in mind and would just like to see which one affords the better driveshaft angles (and if they will fit!). All that is needed is rough dimensions :)

Hi Gee-fin, I will try and get some measurements for you this evening.

Cheers

Gee fin Are you looking at a North south engine? If so then think you are on to sour plums as we Scots say. I do know of one being developed but it uses a very rare Ferrari gearbox that would cost lots and lots of dosh.
Almost any transverse 4 cylinder V6 and even some V8 can be made to fit.

n/s twin turbo toyota v8 with hewland transaxle?

Roush small block V8 with Porsche transaxle?? :) Use the boot space to take the rear overhang of the 'box and it just might go in....

..or one that came up a while back...Northstar V8 out of a Caddy.

..Lexus V8

...Audi V6 bi-turbo (my favourite!).

:) Nope, not longitudinally mounted, still transverse but with a transaxle and some turbo gubbins, just need to measure up the length really (due to the transaxle), the width should be fine as you can straddle these engines with your legs akimbo ;)

Fiat Coupe turbo???

Audi 1.8T/Seat/VW????

Go on...put us out of our misery and tell us!!! :))

I think the S chassis is probably a bit easier to modify than the I if it turns out there is a tube in the way - but pretty much anything is possible.

I know, I know. :D :D
Go on Graeme, tell em, they're dying to know. Or have you changed your mind yet again?

No point building something up until I know it will fit though ;)

I went and bought one of the options today (couldn't miss the bargain), so I just need to know the engine bay length/driveshaft position to see if it will fit, if not, then I will go the other way... :)

Hi Gee_fin, I took some measurements this morning.

The Corse i engine bay narrows slightly from front to back when viewed from above.
The widest useable point is aprox 1300mm, with the narrowest part aprox 850 which is close to the top rear chassis rail.
The distance from rear bulkhead to top rear chassis rail is aprox 630 and aprox 900mm at the bottom, with the driveshaft centre line at 715mm from the rear bulkhead and aprox 410mm from the bottom intermediate chassis rail.

I hope these figures help.

Cheers

Tim

Fantastic, much appreciated! A bit of CAD work tonight then :)
