View Full Version : Stickers

Does anyone know who can supply all of the Strato's stickers and if so what's a typical cost for a set (2x 'STRATO'S, 2x 'Bertone', silver backed 'STRATO'S' and silver backed 'LANCIA HF'). Also, what colour should the non silver backed stickers be for the complete range of stradale cars? I know a red car would have black stickers, a dark blue car white stickers but what about the more obscure colours like orange and light blue?
Thanks,
Andrew.
P.S. I still can't decide what colour to paint the car!!!

The standard body colours for the Stradale cars is: (unless I'm very much mistaken)
Orangey Red
Lime Green
Yellow
Light Blue
Dark Blue
I don't think there's a red AND an orange, just an orangey red.
The colours for the STRATO'S and BERTONE stickers are:
White for the red, and two blue cars and
Black for the Lime Green and Yellow cars but;
If you look at the lime green car on page 50 of the 'Lancia Stratos Super Profile' book the BERTONE sticker has a combination of black for the 'b' and white for the BERTONE word.
The LANCIA badge on the back should be an alloy anodised plate and not a sticker, but I don't think you can get hold of them. People have made chassis plates though, so it might be possible.
I got mine from Omicron, I think the price was reasonable.
I cut the STRATO'S for the doors myself, but I'm a Graphic Designer and one time Signwriter. You could't tell the difference (even though I say it myself) the s/a vinyl I used was a bit thicker than you'd get from a robot cutter if anything.

Chris,
Thanks for the reply. I'm contemplating doing my own stickers as well, depending on how much they cost from other sources. I never realised the rear badges were originally anodised aluminium but it makes a lot of sense for a car of the age. Do you know if they were silk screened aluminium plate (i.e. flat) or pad printed cast aluminium? If they were flat it wouldn’t be too difficult to recreate them. Regardless, perhaps this would be an improvement over the silver stickers.....

Andrew.

Did I see/hear somewhere that the stickers on the rear of that particular car were fitted the wrong way round (left + right)?
I know the book also has a photo that is upside-down, showing the body releases catches in the door jamb - which might cause a bit of confusion for any replica builders that fit these parts!

We have large stocks of the foil stickers.
Our original road car has the Stratos sticker on the RH, Lancia HF on the left

There are a lot of interesting pictures in the 'Lancia Stratos Super Profile' book. The Lancia HF should be on the left, Strato's on the right. Also, the black & white Bertone is unique. One of the lime green cars in the book does show one of its rear badges as silk screened aluminium but the other is a sticker!!!

Got a few copies of that book as well.
The green car may have a better paint finish on side to another. The correct way is to have the pair of foil stickers on the rear, and a Bertone and B and Stratos logo on either side in either black or white

I would be interested in a copy of the Stratos super profile book. Checking the Omicron site it is not listed. How can I get hold of a copy?:(

We have 3 or 4 of these. All new copies.
Books have been out of print for some time, so not easily replaceable once sold.
Sensible Offers please.

I am not sure what a sensible offer would be. I think Ammazon had a second hand copy once, I will try and see what price it was. Have to go now, I am comming over for a wedding and a visit to a man in Frant.

Shaun,
I've seen used copies on Amazon for between US$30 and $40. I bought one on E-bay a few months ago for a little less. They show up from time to time, but not very often.
Unfortunately, that's not very helpful in determining a sensible offer for a new copy. Sorry.

Try http://www.books-international.co.uk/ , I think you'll all be pleased by the price.

I use a guy called Terry Wills for out of print automotive books - Hes very reasonable and I found his service faultless.
His email is twills@breathemail.net
On the subject of colours: I'm sure I've seen an orange option available and theres definately red as theres an original car in Germany (as seen in the for sale section)
Also I know Gerry has the stickers in stock - I purchased some not 2 months ago - very reasonable too, I thought.

Maybe original cars do have both LANCIA HF and STRATO'S on the back as stickers and the lime green car in the Super Profile book with the annodised LANCIA HF badge is wrong. I don't know, now. You'd think that a correct example would be illustrated. Finding a few cars exactly how they left the factory would be hard though.

Oh yes, Andrew.
What colour should you paint it?
What about the mid (light) blue? Not many other Stradale replicas have been painted that colour. So for that reason.
I like ALL the original colours, really.

I've seen the same list of colors published in one of the test compilations. I think it was called "Lancia Stratos 1972-1985" The only other color they mentioned was white, which was only available on competition cars.
I was under the impression that the original red was very orangey. I think somebody told me it was called dino rosso, or something like that. Is that a similar color to the old Ferrari red? (before they changed it to look better on TV)
Still, I agree with Matt about having seen an orange car somewhere, as well as a deeper red. I don't know if either of those colors was original, or if the cars were repainted. It's also possible that the tint was off on the photographs.

That sounds quite expensive for what is really a very slim volume, albeit one that makes a good photo-reference. I reckon that most replica builders will get this book at some time or another during the build process, or just as part of the usual bookshelf collection.
I recall these being available for 99p some years ago, presumably when it went out of print. I considered buying a bunch of them at the time, but didn't expect it's value to rise so much afterwards.:(
Besides the varous other high quality books available on the Stratos, forum members might like to get hold of the 'Brooklands Book' which is a compilation of road test features from magazines (mono print, varied quality, plenty of content). I'm not sure of the proper title right now, but if it isn't one of the Brooklands Books collection it will be a 'Transport Source Book'.
Perhaps another topic on Stratos books might be in order?

Chris,
I’d considered the light blue for the very reason you mentioned, but I can’t find a picture of one anywhere to help me make my mind up.

John,
The Brooklands Book you refer to is the entitled "Lancia Stratos 1972 - 1985" (ISBN 0 948207 02 7) I recently bought this off Ebay for £12.50 plus P+P.

Chris, Andrew,
Is this the color you mean? This was a genuine car I saw in the 'States about a dozen years ago. It's got a wide, matte black stripe on the nose and bootlid, but otherwise looked like original paint.

I have a spare copy of the stratos superprofile available, and would be willing to loan it out for reference to anybody who is short of one.
In these days of digital cameras and scanners anyone wanting particular photos could easily and quickly make whatever copies they want no doubt.

There was a discussion about the paint codes a while back. The correct codes were found by Guy M. who gave them to David W. to post on the site. The light blue stradale pictured in the Nigel Trowe book looks almost turquois to me. I made a quick scan of the picture but on my monitor it looks lighter than it does in the book. Hope that helps.

PPG ITALVER paint codes:
Red: Rosso 2464171
Yellow: Giallo 2469019
Green: Verde Chariot 2465070
Dark Blue: ????? 2466190
Light Blue: ????? 2466440
Silver/Grey: Grigio Scuro 6791983 (alternative ICI 1090B) for the louvres and spoilers. (Not Black!)

Have you noticed that the photo of all these Stadale Stratos cars in the Nigel Trow book has the wrong caption?
Surely it must be the cars parked up at the time of the homologation run and not a Stratos club meeting?

I suspected something like that might be the case. It seems highly unlikely that you would get that many owners together without having a single car with the top and/or rear wing. Also, there is a B&W photo of the same cars a few pages back in the book where the interiors appear to have some kind of plastic draped over them.
