As this forum is currently discussing the female anatomoy I suddenly realised that I require lamp units for my quad pod! Could anyone shed some light on which lamps I should purchase, realising that the Carello was used on the original stratos but are now difficult to source. :p

Have a look in the demon thieves catalogue, lamp pod section. some nice hid kit, nice prices an all.
Susit recommends buying a secondhand pod from a rally car, keep the lamps then sell the pod. Why didn't i think of that? I am fitting the piaa 80 series lenses, don't ask about bulbs, could be a bollox moment. :D

Seriously, there is plenty of choice, take ya pic.

Try using Fiat headlamp nests in the pod, 124 fit easily and are the same externally as the original fittings. The original Carello lamps fit the bowls nicely. If you are going for originality the you need a set of Carello Megalux lights but they are VERY expensive and hard to find. You'll need four if you are going for the extra lower pods like I've just done as these carry the large round Carello fog lights. If you aren't fitting these extra lights then the fogs fit in the pod with a pair of Megaluxes.

If you are ok with the non original look buy a lamp pod s/h via Motorsport news or such like. Plenty to choose from but Pug's easy to sell on. Take the lamps and fittings and sell the rest on.

You could try some wipac lamp mounting set from somewhere like vehicle wiring products (land rover/mini parts suppliers are even cheaper)and use normal 180mm spot lamps without the casings. I've used the wipac fittings on the headlamps and not sure if the cut down plastic is up to the job. There may be a problem with the lamp edge thickness going this route - you may have to make up a gasket as the spotlamp lens is too thin.

When I have unlimited money to spend I think the PIAA alloy fittings from DT and either 180mm PIAA, Hella or Cibies would do the job.

From my understanding there is no rocket science on these pod things, most spot lamps are made from a rear casing with the lens fitted into the front housing(normally by springs) and then this is bolted/fixed into the rear part. You just need the lens and the mounting kit.

Some interesting and varied ideas in purchasing lamps for the pod. I will investigate the ideas suggested thanks everyone.

One more suggestion:

Buy my car and you get the lamps and lamp pods included in your purchase!

Perhaps not the cheapest solution, but I'm sure you would like two cars on the road...
