I know this will have been covered before but can anyone help. I am going to be building a Corse "I" early next year but I am undecided on what engine to fit & the availability of my options. I was originally going to use a 12v Alfa but these now seem to be less desirable with the 24v being more available.
Can anyone advise me what a 24v v6 would set me back (either Lancia or Alfa) for a reasonable example, also has anyone got any recommended sources that they are willing to divulge (distance isn't an issue for the correct motor).
The second option which I really quite fancy but I believe the cost will be too prohibitive is the Lancia 8.32, I think this engine has alot going for it in compactness, centre of gravity, LSD etc but it is obviously alot harder to come by & will cost more to install if you need to convert to electronic injection, also spares I believe cost more due to the Ferrari connection.
As with the Alfa has anyone got any recommended sources for these units & roughly what would you expect to pay for the base engine, box & ancillaries.
Many thanks in advance

Craig,

there is an 8.32 on ebay at the moment for £ 4000.00 They don't quite make the Ferrari noises but who'd care! I think the 8.32 motors were actually built by Ducatti. Only around 200bhp.
If you want a good all round package then the alfa 164 is the way to go. 24 valvers are a little more complex but the +'s would outweigh the -'s. Buy a runner with as low miles as you can find, drive it till the tax runs out then strip it. Mick(catswhiskers) used the alfa driveshafts and flanges with remachined hub castings. Those wheels of his should still be on the cnc at image if you wanted some.If you go 24 v be prepared to fit a 'cat'.

You could try a alfa 166 3.0, more modern version of the 164.

Lancia kappa 24v engines are a bit thin on the ground, i've only ever seen one.

If you are thinking of going to log book your car for rallying then still consider the 12V alfa or make sure the 24 valve says its a 2.5 not 3 litre in the log book

Thanks for the replies,
The car will be built for road use but with the emphasis on a show car finish so I aren't concerned with the rallying issues.
