Hi is there anyone around the Nort West that would have access to a Car Trailer/Transporter which is available for Hire or for borrowing to be really cheeky?...lol. The Donor car needs to be picked up.

Can't help on the loan side but take a look in your yellow pages under trailers, there will probably be a company who hire them out.

Cheers Strat I know of a company just would rather give money to a fellow strat lover than a company. But obviously will go down that route if thats the only option.

Is the donor driveable? Might be easier/cheaper to get a lift/train and drive it back. I always recommend that the donor car be used for a while so that you're sure that the engine and box are good. It's too late once it's installed.....

I would drive it if I could yes, but it is SORN at the moment and its a little far to risk it. Once I have picked it up I am going to be using it but it needs a little work.

Andy,
you could try Autoquip UK at Kelsall/Tarporley. Also there is a company by the name of John Thompson Plant Hire locally who had a flat bed, twin axle Ivor Williams for hire. Trouble is they have just moved from Mouldsworth and I don't know where they have gone! Things are progressing for you I see.

Hiya John, I missed out on the car as I was gonna buy it now on ebay for £250 and by the time I logged back into ebay it had gone over the reserves so the buy it now option had gone. Well it turn out myself and CorseChris added about £40 onto it this afternoon bidding against each other. (Plonkers we are) I think we all on here need to know each other ebay names as I wouldn't of bid against Chris today as I'm not really ready to take the Donor but because it was cheap I thought I may as well as it was up for grabs.
As before John my Donor really is due to be bought in the New Year when I move house, even closer then its in Rudheath...lol.

...and I only saw it and bid at the last minute, not even knowing who was bidding - plonker indeed!! In our defence, I think we only added about £10 to it as an early bidder had already raised it a bit.
I've offered Andy the car if he wants it..but he's happy to wait until it suits him better, which is all good.

I think Chris Smith also offers a transportation service. I don't want to post his info here, but if someone sends me a PM, I can send it along.

Hi Simon,
thanks for the tip on Tetton Trailers. I think Autoquip charge £25/day but not always available. Hows your build coming on? Did you end up in Nantwich? And are you still with Michelin?
Nosey am I not? Sorry! We met at Micks when you visited with Lionel.

Hi Andy,
Collected it Sunday - what fun that was.....
...but it's actually quite nice. A shame to break really, and I'd sort of decided that the broken screen was the mortal wound. Mmm, £60 is pretty cheap isn't it. Thanks for the link. Other than the exhaust leak (new part in a box on the back seat), it's sound. Oh, and the usual Alfa heater stepper motor fault of course! It came with the 164 workshop manual, a brand new battery, the front exhaust section as I mentioned, a brand new set of floor mats(!) and some odd spares in the boot as well.
I still haven't looked at it properly in daylight yet. It was dark by the time we arrived to pick it up, it's either been frozen or fog-bound every morning so far since and it's dark when I get home of course. I'll have a proper look on Saturday and decide it's fate then I think. I did briefly consider taking the motor out and putting back the one I curently have stripped in the garage...but that's probably just plain stupid! If I did decide to keep it, I've then got the problem of selling something else, and judging by how much luck I'm having so far selling the Jeep, I don't think I want to go there :(
If it does end up being broken, anything you need from it? Some parts already spoken for, but let me know.
Cheers
Chris

OK, it's now an ex-164. Fuel filler neck taken off for you John H. Wiper mechanism, steering column and handbrake taken off for John D. Engine taken out for Chris S :)
Turned out it was a tad rusty underneath so not worth the expense of sorting. It would need a very big plastic tub of Soda Crystals to sort out I suspect..........
Remnants of the car go today so no more requests for parts I'm afraid.
Curiously, although it is a 1989 car, it was equipped with a CAT and lambda probe. If anyone has a non-CAT ECU and wants to fit a lambda, I now know what the 'Lambda coding relay' actually is, so it's probably an easy task to get closed loop operation (assuming the ECU firmware is the same of course...).
