Can somebody tell me how the headlamps fit into the pods? Do you fit all of the x1/9 bits?

Hi Yes, that what I've done anyway. Also had to make small bracket to attach the top of the X1/9 backplate. I remember this being very fiddly!!
I think some people have used Wipac bowls rather than the X1/9 bits as an alternative.
Hope this helps

I've used wipac type bowls, backless in plastic so they are easy to trim and locate with small nuts and bolts or self tappers David M

John,
Have a look at mine when you come over later. They aren't X1/9 units but they're still fiddly though.

of my headlamp pod(off side) Is the lamp nest backing ring fitted in the right place or should it be behind the grp flange?
Also, There is a small bracket that is shown in the transformer/hawk build manual. i am holding it where the instructions say it should fit but can't quite work out what fixes to it? Maybe its for the ribbons to fix to next time i get married  The build manual is as much use as a chocolate fireguard, can anybody shed some light on this before i have my 38th nervous breakdown.

The bracket you're holding definitely doesn't go there! The only thing that goes on that face is the black surround. Can't be more helpful as I'm at work at the moment.

Hi John, first off you need to reassemble the whole lamp nest so that a headlight can be put in. The headlight is located by three lugs on the back and will only fit in the nest in one position. I think that you'll find that the fixed backing plates (shown in the piccie) are identical but when the back half of the mounting bowl is attached the retaining spring only allows assembly in one position and this dictates which side pod the lamp goes into.. Obviously the spring mounting on the rear plate can't foul the underside of the top of the pod.I think mine are both towards the bottom of the pod so the one in your piccie is probably 90 or 180 degrees out.
Ignore the little bracket you show in the picture for the time being. With the lamp nests assembled hold them in the pod so that the lense pattern is vertical. (And don't assume that the sides of the pods are vertical once installed) Fit the outer trim over the headlight and match the edges to the sides of the pod so that the headlamp is central. Carefully remove the trim so that the lamp doesn't move and mark a couple of refernce points on the pod and backing plate.
This will give you a guide as to where the two lower mounting holes need to be drilled. Once drilled they can be slotted for a little adjustment. Reassemble and make sure that the outer trim fits where you want it to be.
Next is the little bracket. Offer this up between the back of the mounting plate and the underside of the top of the pod until it sits square against the plate and on the surface of the pod. Glass it in place and drill through the mounting plate in the appropriate place so you can put a bolt through the top of the mounting plate into the little bracket. If it doesn't fit nicely then circular file the bracket, bend a piece of ally and glass it in place and use the third mounting point with a nut on the back (although this is very fiddly to tighten up!
Hope this helps but feel free to call me for clarification BUT NO EARLIER THAN SUNDAY EVENING PLEASE.
Guy
