Hi All,
Well I've spent many an hour reading through the forums gaining an understanding of the challenge ahead  I've since ordered my Hawk kit (Alfa V6) and received the "build" manual :o MMMMmmmm, very comprehensive. End of term course work! I'm now looking for any up to date info on sourcing some of the basics since I've got some time before it arrives. I understand that Gerry has a comprehensive list but it's suppose to be fun, right?
Thanks to the forum I've identified a Spitfire MK IV rack will work, so thanks to eBay - £15. There's a few left.
Here starteth the search
1. I'm now looking for a pair of stub axles, PLEASE. Any ideas?
2. Options and sources available for struts and front shox and overall sping rates. I got totally immersed in Martin's threads...I need a little more time to understand unless someone has done all the leg work?
3. A beta intermediate shaft and bearing.
4. Column and casing.
5. Door handle assemblies.
6. Best place for fixings - nuts, bolts and screws etc...
7. Is Hawk the only source for petrol tanks?
There's more to come so please be patient,
Regards,
Allen

1) Gerry can supply - they're the same as FSO Polonez I think
2) Front shox - Gaz off ebay; Use Leda rears - Beta ones aren't up to V6 weight
3) Ebay - try emailing anybody breaking a Beta
4) ditto
5) Interior or exterior? Outer try X19 files (see suppliers); inner try as for 3) but substitute fiat 850 spyder
6) Namrick / Think Automotive (see suppliers)
7) Yes for ones that fit as Hawk intend. You could get a custom fabrication by your local engineering shop, or you might want a bag tank, but where to put it needs ingenuity.
Next? ;)

6) Namrick thoroughly recommended with fast turn round.
Also A2A4 here: http://www.a2a4.co.uk/ who happen to be ten minutes away from me :)

Yes, I can make a third recommendation for Namrick. I've had one or two obscure nuts and bolts from them, and a 1/2" UNF die too. Yes, delivery is quick.

Thanks for all the help guys, it's much apprecaited. Looks like you've got a request for membership  Do I need to search on how to join?
Help continued:
Is there a model year on the stub axle cars?
Does it matter if the Beta is a S1 or 2 for stearing shaft, bearing, Column and casing?

Allen

Hi Allen, here is a link for the club membership form.
http://www.stratclub.com/club/membership/SEC%20Membership%20Application%20Form.doc
There is no particular year for the stub axles. Gerry has or had a stock of the FSO variety and can probably source more very easily through his Polish contacts. Give him a call! He'll just add the price to the bill but it'll save a LOT of searching around scrapyards.
If you're still looking for intermediate columns I've got a few lying around. All seem to be different lengths but I'm sure that one would fit or be capable of being shortended to suit. Fiat X19 might well be a better bet for the upper column and ignition switch unless you've decided to go for the Group 4 dash in which case a Fiat 124 is the best option as it hides the column lock under the dash whereas the Fiat/Lancia one is an ugly fit!

New Stub axles are available from Superformance for £135 each
I don't know if they are cheaper from Gerry via Poland?
I've got one for only £20
(because there's only one, and a pair would be worth more).

I bought my stub axles from Hawk Cars. I think they were about £100 for the pair. Bear in mind that was four years ago, so your price may vary!

Thanks for the offer Chris. Are there any obvious areas that wear or become bent / damaged? Gerry supplies new ones for £100 each  So........
Does anyone know of a major Fiat breakers in the UK?

Hate to undercut Gerry... but I'll sell a pair happily for £100. Having abused the first set for 14 years I don't think I'll need another pair! I think they've even got the fiat hubs!

Chris,
My part time job - manic project manager. ;) Even got the lowest score in my formal training in work :D What do they know?
Anyway, I'm hoping to source parts well ahead of my Hawk delivery (Jan 06 X)where ever possible...
On a serious note. I'm wondering how the guys coped building their car in the early years before internet, email and the open markets!! Pure admiration :)

Allen

There were loads of scrapyards bursting at the seams with fiats and you could even go and remove the parts yourself!! Whiled away many a saturday afternoon hunting for odds and ends Oh HAPPY DAYS :)
