Hi all well at last real progress has been made on instaling my Alfa V6 but some questions to be asked.
This one has come up before but no answer as yet that I can find.
Can anyone give the cylinder bore of a standard Alfa 164 master cylinder or suggest what size of master cylinder to use with a tilton pedal setup (floor mount).
Cheap source of remote brake fluid reservoir ( no scrap yard in Inverness to go looking) :)

I think it is 22mm but that is a guess. The X1/9 was 19mm, haven't a clue what that is in scottish inches. Will be at a scrapyard tomorrow, see what comes up but I'll not be able to post it for two weeks.

Hi Chris got an answer of 7/8 of inch. need one with remote reservoir as I have changed to a floor mounted pedal box. If yours is a remote type then I am interested.

This link should get you the page on the Grand Prix Racewear site for mastercylinder kit with reservoirs. As far as I remember the kits come with both cylinder mounted and remote reservoirs in the same box.

Is 7/8 the definitive answer? I'm finding the 3/4 master is too small (not quite enough travel) having put the V6 in so need a new master. This is with a standard Alfa slave.

..right, fitted a 7/8" master (thanks Mick!) and with a 6:1 pedal ratio I'm finding it pretty much perfect (a 13/16" might work a tad better but I'm not changing it again). This is with a new slave cylinder and I'm certain that slave bores for the Alfa have changed over the years and models. I have 3 old ones and they are all slightly different bores. Alfa only list 1 slave now for all applications.

Would it also be possible to use the original Alfa 164 master cilinder :confused: Has anyone tried this?
I got this bracket ( see pic , bracket on the right) with my kit from Gerry and the Alfa master cilinder fits in there. It fits into the bracket welded under the dash.
I also saved the Alfa pedal box to mesure the pedal ratio, would that be sufficient?
The part attached to it is the push rod for the master cilinder I think :o ?

Hi Pim,
Not sure if I was explicit - my car is a Corse and uses a Tilton pedal box. If the Alfa master fits your brackets (and in the car) and the pedal ratios are the same, then it would do just fine.
Certainly looks like a master cylinder pushrod to me.

Any additional info on how those parts fit together? Specifically, how does the master cylinder mount to the end of the clutch pedal linkage and frame? I'm trying to figure out how the Alfa master cylinder would mount relative to the X1/9 unit previously fitted to a Hawk.

Hi Scot,
These were the only parts i got with the kit, so there is no linkage. I geuss i have to make it myself.
The bracket fits on the inside of the existing braket, I'll post some pictures next time .
I saved the 164 pedal box, so will have a good look at the linkage and measure the pivot ratio next time i'm in the work shop.
I do seem to remember that i did some rough measuring, the pivot on the Hawk is smaller than the pivot on the 164 pedal box so it will have to be modified, i think .

The bracket fits on the inside of the existing braket, I'll post some pictures next time
I think i was wrong about the clutch bracket :o , the Alfa cluch master cil. does fit in the bracket but only at an angle. Is it a problem to fit it like this or is it better to drill new holes :confused:
I don't think a linkage is needed because the master will fit strait on to the pedal pivot.
I do seem to mis the cover ,that fits over the cluch pivot, in my kit. Is that an extra part i need to order from Gerry or do i have to make it myself :confused:

The GRP cover that fits onto the bulkhead is something that Gerry will provide.
Angle of slave cylinder doesn't look ideal. If it bleeds correctly, then it should be ok.
It doesn't look as though there is room to mount it if twisted so that the inlet is at the very top?

The GRP cover that fits onto the bulkhead is something that Gerry will provide.

I think youre right John, I will weld an extra piece on the top of the bracket for the top bolt and then twist the cilinder a bit so the inlet will be at the top, there is plenty of room to do so.
