Last resort was my local BSL, Yeah, no problem, collect it tomorow, here's one thats a size smaller, is that the correct amount of stiction on the ball?
The sample was perfect, a nice snug fit without any slop in the bearing but lovely and free rotating so it won't bind up on me steering shaft. Thats my re-profiled steering column project sorted. Just got to stick it on the shaft and have the uj rewelded back on(properly) All done for the weekend.

Bearing services ltd. One in just about every town, but perhaps not north of the border?
I wanted to feel how tight the ball was(oooh vicar!) to make sure it would spin freely. Some of the rod ends with various liners have an incredible amount of stiction. I'd bought some for my gear linkage which were so tight that the gear lever wouldn't move side to side, sent em back. They were mail order, proved to be a right pain.

The rod end is now installed on the shaft and wil be refitted on the car tonight. £22.00 all up with two nuts. Bargain.

I too had gear-linkage trouble with stiff joints. Being too lazy to send them back I bolted the centres to a slow electric drill and spun them until they freed up. (I think it actually melted the PTFE a bit but they've been fine ever since.)
