Hope this photo works ok.

Was up at Bruntingthorpe today at their open day and was asked to run my Corse against a Hawker Hunter Jet fighter - well, how could i say no...

Unfortunately, i was not allowed to drive it against the jets, but that did mean that i had the opportunity to watch them howl down the 2 mile runway. I have several video clips and photos if anyone wishes to see or hear more.

Absolutely amazing spectacle that i will never forget. :D  :D  :D

... and the result?

Well. as expected the Hunter won, but my little Corse did herself proud and was still just about keeping up with the Hunter over the first mile.

Many thanks to Lionel Gooch and the guys at Bruntingthorpe for a magical day :D :D :D

Nice one!

Did the Hunter get airborne or have to use a brake chute?

Hi again. Yes Chris, i will do an article.

The hunter was not allowed to take off, like all the planes in the Cold War Collection at Bruntingthorpe. Many of them are fully operational, but none are are allowed to fly. The runway is a full 2 miles long, so they run under full power from satanding for about 1 1/4 miles then slow down.

Full list of planes running yesterday were:
De Havilland Comet (only operational one in the world)
English Electric Lightning
Handley Page Victor
Hawker Hunter
TS11 Iskra (Polish advanced trainer)
Jet Provost

Our small group blagged a ride in the Comet which was a good laugh. Very good accelleration for an old girl in her 50's.

They also had 2 jet cars running which were awsome and also very loud.

Cheers

I once helped a mate of mine take a Hunter apart and transport it to his 'front garden' ....what a fantastic bit of kit.

'Bet that was thrilling, Tim?

The Hunter has beaty AND function, like a Stratos, but the Lightening?..well, that's a bit brutal, a thing of purpose, 'bit of a Delta S4?

I'm trying to get a couple of movie clips hosted so you can see the fun.

Will post here when i manage to get them online.

Meanwhile, here is another interesting photo incorporating a Jet Provost Trainer.
