Got a pair of old beta struts?

Want to change to adjustable competition dampers with 2.25in springs and adjustable spring platforms?

There is an alternative to Leda struts

See below: my old beta struts converted by GAZ shocks, ready to bolt to beta top mount or a solid alloy plate, I'll start with the beta top mount initially and see how it all lines up.

Is this a purchase you've regretted, that you're not using them?
I thought it was just me that did things like that.

Not at all, have just got them back from the conversion, I'll put them on next chance I get to get up to the barn. the reason for opting for 2.25in springs is that they are mere easily available and also interchangeable with the fronts, if I need to try alternative spring rates,

How did the cost of the conversion compare with a pair of Ledas?
The Leda struts could take the narrower springs - I'm sure that's what Leda suggested when i spoke to them.

£364 inc VAT, delivery and two pairs of springs.

Interesting,
Never heard of GAZ before - but it got me thinking. Re-cycling parts has to be a good idea and getting parts modified/reconditioned has to be relatively cost effective. It might be useful if we could make up a list of companies who perform this service....
By the way, anyone got a good Beta petrol tank kicking around that they don't want......? :D

Further to my last entry, I had a quick browse around the internet to see if I could find anything on rebuilding struts common to the Beta range. The attached file (trust it opens OK, if not email me and I'll forward it to you) goes into some detail about rebuilding the struts and could be of some use to anyone determined to do it at home....

I remember when ........

When I first started rallying back in the late70s/early80s, the first Escort I had was a 1300, running on standard struts.

I couldn't afford Bilstein Struts for it, so I stripped down the struts, drained the oil, and replaced it with engine oil - it worked surprisingly well.
