Well after realising that the Corse has track and offsets different to the Hawk, I decided the only way to get coffin spokes was to have them made. Bearing in mind the wider track I had to accomodate, I dont think the guys did a bad job. Wont be long before they are bolted on ready for a run.
Wheels are 17" x 7.5" with 225-45 fronts and 17" x 10" with 275-40 rears.

Łouch!
Post a pic of them on the car when yu get to that stage Mick. I think you're the first to go 17", it'll be interesting to see the boots on.

Will do Chris, and you may be suprised how economical they worked out ;) ;)

And Steve Ellis was of course running 18" on his Corse at Abingdon...
They look good though Mick. looking forward to seeing them on the car!

Who made them Mick? And out of interest what made you decide on 17".
I am in the minus brownie points at home having just ordered my wheels, went for
7 X 15 revolution's classic five spoke but bought 12, set of wets, set of dry + 2 spare each. Made sense to me but try explaining that one to her indoors.

Yeah, not bad eh Rob.
Stephen, I decided on 17" wheels mainly because of the modern tyre choices available. !5" tyres are becoming harder to obtain and tend to be more expensive. When you consider that I got a set of 'Bespoke' machined wheels, powder coated, chrome wheels studs, tyres (including fitting and balancing) and still paid LESS than a set of the 'other' coffin spokes, I dont think it was a bad price. I'll be the first to admit that they are not good as the others for authentic looks, but I reckon its a good alternative for Corse owners.
:) Only my opinion though :)

Hi

I reckon they look the dogsdanglies, catswhiskers!

The lack of choice in 15" (and 16") tyres is a great shame for anyone wishing to keep older sports cars authentic - but all the best rubber seems to come in 17" and 18" now.

The wheels look pretty good Mick.

I quite fancy getting a set.
One thing concerns me though.

I've currently got 16" rims with 45 profile tyres, and obviously running a 17" with 45 tyres will increase the diameter of the wheels and the rolling radius.

My understanding is that this is likely to increase top speed, but reduce accelleration by a small ammount. Has anyone got some figures that can show what the actual difference is likely to be.

Cheers

Increasing the rolling radius will reduce the engine revs and (unless highly undergeared) reducing the power and hence real top speed (while reducing noise and fuel consumption).
The real acceleration will hardly change but it may look slower in increments on the clock since the gears will last longer, but in lucky cases you may even save a gear-change and appear faster.

Tim,

You may have miss-read my sizes.
I am actually using 40 series tyres on the rear. I dont know what width you are thinking of running but as a typical example, the rolling diameter of a 245 / 45 x 16 is 627mm. compared to a 245 / 40 x 17 which is 628mm.
This wont have any effect on acceleration or top speed so no worries there.

Hi Mick, I am running 205/45/16 front and 225/45/16 on the rear.

The only other issue is that your wheels are for an Alfa hub, with all other Corse using Ford Scorpio. Can the wheel suppliers handle this differnce.

Hi Tim,

Firstly, yes the wheel guys can make them to suit virtually ANY fitting so no worries there.
Secondly, I think they can even make the wheels in 16" so that may be an option.
Finally, if you go 17" the diameter of the 225 / 40 x 17 will be 612mm compared to 225 / 45 x 16 that you are running which are 609mm. Again, a negligable difference.
If you need full details, give me a call or a pm.

Mick :)
