Can some technowhizztypebod explain how these work, and how they fit into the system? Technonerdallthumbs here can't get his head round it.

My understanding of them although my car does not have one is, you have a brake master cylinder on the pedal which sends fluid pressure to a cylinder mounted on the servo itself, the second cylinder is asisted by the servo which sends pressure to the calipers, the servo needs a vacuum from the engine, you can get them in different ratio of assistance, this means you can use one for all 4 calipers or one for the front & one for the back, hope this helps Regards Mark.

So it works by boosting the hydraulic fluid pressure, not the pressure applied to the M/C. All is clear now. :)
Does anybody use one? Or two or three or four?

You'd need a pair if running a split system or twin cylinder/balance bar set up.
If you have a long enough pedal, with a ratio of say 6.25 to 1 or greater, then you probably wouldn't need the servo's.
Just think of the extra weight!!. Maybe time to fit that big pedal box??. Probably cheaper too.
Demon thieves, page 297 for a kit to fit what you already have.
You have mail.

Gerry says, in a Gerry sort of way, that you could put one on the front, or one on each....

Up until the 1970s almost all cars had remote servos (often hidden away in obscure corners) - the direct pedal-servo arrived later and is less complex but harder to find space for.
I've seen all combinations of split systems with 1 and/or 2 remote servos, so they can be made to work, if you have enough patience and gallons of brake fluid!!
(Who's having problems bleeding today...?)

I've only got through 5l so far....and now I'm rebuilding the system again

Chris

I use two sero's, one in the front for the front brakes and one mounted on the chassis rail in front of the gear box for the rear brakes. Current servo ratio 2.3 to 1 With Wilwood four pot calipers and Fiat X1/9 master cylinder mouted under the dash. A ratio of 2.5 - 3.0 to 1 would be ideal !!

Staffordshire Vehicle Components do a twin remote servo. I'll post more details when they get them to me.
