This is the type of mirror fitted to the right side of the Stratos Chris. The original left side mirror looks like the one in this link but with the base/stem from a Beta, the same one you've listed. If you look at any picture of a stradale with 2 mirrors you'll see that they are slightly different shapes. If anyone is desperate for the original shape left sided mirror you can email the seller in the link below as he seems to be listing this item regularly so I assume he has a stock of them.
I wonder if the seller of the Beta mirrors has the gaskets and brackets to fix the mirrors to the door? Expect a high price - these mirrors are very rare! I wish I'd kept my spare set....

Just to let intrested parties know, the mirrors sold for £170!. I started the bidding and lost out in the last 30 seconds to mbchalky!. Is he a Stratos member or just a collector of rare mirrors?.
If anybody knows of some better mirrors than the good old Californias please let me know-I'm not sure I can do the Ebay stress test again!.
Cheers

£170?? Bargain. My Fiat Barchetta mirrors cost over £300....but then they are electrically operated....amazing how expensive a tiny electric motor can be.

True, compared to £300 for your mirrors £170 is a bargain but you could have bought a complete Lancia Beta for that a few years ago!.

Quite so Bob. The pained expression on my face when recalling how much I spent didn't come across on the forum ;)
Seems to be a habit with me though...I spent over £350 some years back on a pair of Citroen CX mirrors (electric again) for our Marcos. Worth it though for the increased comfort in being able to see what was behind me.
Sando used some bike mirrors on his car that I think look good, and they give decent vison as well. More sensible price as well.

Thanks for the info Chris, do the bike mirrors look similair to the Beta ones or are they purely practical-I'm trying to go for the original style if possible, though after Ebay experience I might have to compremise!. I didn't give up on the Ebay auction, it's just everytime I up'd the price so did he-until time ran out-he must have broad band!.

Bob, you can see them here http://www.stratossupersite.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=752&sort=1&cat=500&page=1
I've been 'sniped' many times on Ebay and it's damned irritating! End of the day, if you bid enough (and use the auto-bid), you'll win. It's just that there always seems to be somebody out there willing to pay more.....

Thanks for that Chris, do you happen to know the bike they're from-they look big tourer style.

Hi Guys
Brent you were close....they are Yamaha FZR 750. I searched for years to find something that looked right but were high enough to get through SVA. I think these are a good compromise for me. Not original, but fit in well.
I'll try and post a pic or link later. I did also find some long stemmed Californians in a catalogue on an Italian manufactures site but couldn't get through to them or get a reply. Check out modern Moped mirrors too....There are some there that might take your fancy. Just make sure you position them so that they can actually be used!
Cheers

Here you go £35.......... A PAIR!!!!!
For pattern ones. I think the Genuine ones were about £90 each but they could only get White at the time, so I just went for these. They are OK for the money not top quality but a good compromise in my book.

Thanks for the photos, I think I may do the same. Did you use them to pass the SVA?
Cheers

Hi Brent
Yep passed SVA with them.
Careful where you position the drivers side as this one is key. I used an old axle stand and a broom Handle stuck in it, positioned it at the required points to make sure I could see them......before I drilled any holes!
The thing is this is where you would want them for maximum vision anyway. So common sense really.
The Nearside one he said was marginal (you need to see quite a wide area on the ground) but as the interior mirror was big enough and close enough to the driver to see a good deal behind (without the louvers on for the test) this negated the need for the nearside mirror anyway.
Hope that helps
cheers Rob

Thanks for the tips Rob.
It's also worth noting that the SVA regs require a mimimum size for the mirror (I've only got a draft copy but that states 70mm width X 40mm high), so this may need to checked before buying them.

Yep They are ok for that, I'll check again when I get chance but I'm sure that was one of my considerations too when I was searching for alternatives.
