Hi all - need lots of advice on a whole range of things.
The oil question has partly been dealt with before. My engine is a Beta 2000, worked over by Oselli. It is very clean inside. Can you help me with the following please:
1. What grade of oil would you advise? I don't yet know what is in it already. Proposing a flush out and refill as is my habit with a new car. 20W/50 seems the right sort of thing for the age of the engine but perhaps a modern 10W/40 will be OK especially as quality 20W/50 seems to be getting harder to find. Will go semi synthetic or fully synthetic if it is thought OK but concerned that some of the more modern oils may lack the viscosity required.
2. Are there any known good or known bad makes of filter. Have heard of some filters collapsing internally. The non return valve matter does not seem to be an issue as the filter bowl points downwards.
3. Will drain and refill the gearbox but with what and what grade? 80/90? Have heard that synthetics give better gear changes, especially cold. In my recent Triumph Herald and Dolomite days, we were always aware that a GL5 oil had additives that attacked the copper rich parts in the diff so we always used GL4. Does anybody know if the Beta box/diff has parts vulnerable to modern gear oils?
Off to Halfords to see what's available.
What do folks think? Thanks.
