It's been quite a week. Joined SEC and have today completed the purchase of Keith Booker's (ex Chris J's) Stratos. Decided to have somebody deliver it to me rather than drive the 200 miles, as advised by Keith. Glad I did as the weather was pretty poor tonight.

I'm alternating between walking around in a daze and jumping around like a dog with two somethings ;) .

Expect all the daft questions of the new owner.

After I've learned to drive it, Brooklands is next I think.

:D :D :D :D :D :D

Well done!

I think it needs a set of coffin spokes (real ones 108mm pcd).
Or have you spent enough?

Hi all and thanks for your good wishes.

Car has just arrived here. First job was back it up the drive.

No Chris, all that money burning a hole in my pocket is going into petrol to drive it. :D

I just cannot stop the :D :D :D

What would be really good is if you could take a picture or two of the car, and do a short write-up for the club magazine. Could describe what got you interested in the car in the first place, then your first impressions on driving it.

Doesn't need to be well written, anything that shows your enthusiasm for the car. And email it to editor@stratclub.com :)

Cheers,

Ah, I'm no longer the editor - but I thought it worthwhile putting in a plug for copy whilst you might be in the best frame of mind to write something :)

I don't know when the next deadline is for the newsletter, Chris Savage will be doing his first copy and I'm sure he would appreciate any content for it.

Drop an email to the editor address and ask him if he has a deadline looming...

Thanks for the plug John!

Peter - I'd appreciate anything you can put together for the newsletter....at present, I have literally nothing to go in the next issue......so don't fret about an imminent copy date!

No limit on the size of article.

Right. I'll make a start.

Going out for the first time today :D to do the initial driving impressions. It's been a tough 12 hours or so looking at the car on the drive hiding under its cover.

Managed to frighten the cats already though. Son wants me to insure it for him too - no chance: he has his VX220 to play with.

Peter,

That'll be great - thank you. Anything you feel like saying, any format. Some pictures would be nice too if you can manage some.

Feel free to PM me or mail me on editor@stratclub.com if you'd like to discuss anything in a more private manner ;)

..and Welcome!!

Regards

Chris

Surely someone - other than 'the usual suspects' - could do a write-up on the Stoneleigh History Show? Seemed that plenty of people went along. It'd be good if just a couple of comments were sent in, ideally with snaps from the show.

If/when my 24v conversion gets completed, I'll do a write-up on that for the newsletter.

Other than that, the calendar section is the only area for which content can be easily sourced!

I'm sure Guy will put together something when his car completes its current transformation.

But the newsletter really, really, needs others to send in articles and comments for publication - whether large or small, so come on guys...

Just returned home having put 100 miles on the clock. Big grin, one dodgy moment (about to enter corner and caught accelerator with foot when what I really wanted was the brake).

Plenty to write about for the news letter, pics of the car outside Beaulieu Garage (who could't be bothered to come out to see what was making all the noise - perhaps they get it all the time) and elsewhere. Lots of New Forest driving to come.

Put some real leaded fuel in just to try it out. Couldn't tell the difference between it and normal unleaded and Millers VSP.

Making "to do" list for the car.

If you're wondering what that aluminium plate is on the rear bulkhead, that's where I had a Peltor intercom fitted. For the longer trips, and conversation with the passenger.

Yes, I had noticed it, and a whole load of other things too. Will it be OK if I PM you with them - there will be quite a lot as I know what I'm like :). Have thought about an intercom - I'll look up Peltor.

For an opener, what is the ali container with a sight glass plumbed into the cooling system. The thing on the left hand side top chassis member. lt didn't get hot - my best guess so far is an air separator but I'm not clear how to vent it if that's what it is.

Also, where *exactly* is the screen washer pump switch?

1./It's a catch tank for the standard Fiat/Lancia crankcase breather. 'Nothing to do with the cooling/water. Keith said you'd asked about that, and I tried to explain what it was for in one sentence, but I failed. Keith's going to send you what I waffled on to him about the catch tank. Don't read it though, it'll just confuse you even more. It IS a sensible thing though.

2./(I think?) It's controlled by that relay just under the drain channel in the middle of the front bulkhead. Water drips down from the channel at the bottom of the screen and into the relay. Then the relay packs up and nothing works.
You tested me there, I had a job to remember that one. It never got onto my 'to do' list. Terry didn't get much chance for any little fine tuning jobs, really. I'm sure that one does the washers? That relay does want shifting to somewhere else though.
I think it could do with a big re-packable silencer for the exhaust. Then, maybe you wouldn't need a Peltor? Then, some way of diverting the sound from those sidedraughts?
