Hi all,
My name is Pim de Jonge and I live in Arnhem, the Netherlands. Next week I am going to order a HF 3000 kit from Hawks distributor in Belgium ( Oracle cars ). I love old rally cars, my favourites are the Alpine A 110 and the Lancia Stratos. As Alpines are hard to obtain I dicided to build myself a Stratos. I made a list of the parts I think I need to order. I am not sure if I forgot some essential parts/options to get started properly. Maybe you could help me out and answer some questions for me. Or maybe you know some alternatives on parts from Hawk.
I want to order a HF3000, LHD with the old style group 4 body kit. With that the five stud hub conversion , the coffin spoke wheels and the anti roll bars. I am not sure if I need to order the shocks, springs and rear struts, are there alternatives ( they seem expensive?)?
The five stud hubs, are they only the front hubs or all four, on the forum some were talking about using Delta hubs and cv joints?
Can I use the Alfa 164 brakes ( discs and callipers ) on the 5 stud conv. and do I need special brackets to mount them?
Where do I get the adapters needed for the Beta drive shafts onto the Alfa diff.?
Maybe some of you can help me out with some donor parts or good adresses to get some ( x 19 door handles and catches ).
I will be coming to one or both of the shows in may ( Stoneleigh ) and june ( Abingdon ) look forward meeting some of you guys and see your cars.
My first experience in a stratos was in Nico's green car, great fun! forgot all about the Alpine, thanks Nico!
I hope you all can read my school Englisch, I still have some trouble with all the technical words.
Well, that's it for now, hope to hear from you or see you in England soon.

Pim,
Luctor et Emergo!

Hi there, glad to see you are joining the fray.
Say hello to Eric, Sabine and Peter for me...

Front shocks and springs are specific to the kit, although could be sourced elsewhere.

The rear struts and springs are based on Lancia Beta front struts, but all-new. The parts from Hawk generally come with spring mounts that take the same diameter spring as the original Stratos used - different to the Beta. You could use smaller diameter coil springs, which are cheaper but look 'odd' when the back is open.

I think the five-stud setup uses custom front hubs and some Fiat/Alfa/Lancia parts at the rear, but I've only got four-studs on my car.

You can use the Alfa 164 brakes, for which I believe Hawk can provide the brackets needed to fit these to the car.

The driveshaft adapters come as part of the HF3000 kit.

There are plenty of contact details in one of the other forums on this site, which may be a start for you. But I'm sure some parts may be available in Holland or Belgium too.

All the best,

Pim,

The front shocks may be available elsewhere. I think a couple of people on this forum have purchased GAZ shocks on e-bay that are the same as those you can get from Hawk.

The rear Struts are a Leda unit that might be unique to the Hawk. Lancia Beta Coupe struts can be used, but they're marginal for a v-6 engine. I would recommend the Leda struts unless you are building an HF2000. I don't know whether Leda manufactures struts for the Lancia Beta.

Front springs are standard coils. The Hawk rear springs are special large diameter coils. You might be able to substitute smaller diameter racing springs with a similar rate.

The 5-stud hub kit includes the front hubs, and brake caliper mounting brackets for Alfa 164 brakes. The rear hubs, and CV joints are Lancia Delta Integrale parts, which Hawk can supply, or you can purchase elsewhere. Likewise, you will need studs for the rear hubs, which you can get either from Hawk, or elsewhere.

The Delta outer CV joints are a direct fit on the Beta halfshaft. Inner CV joint adapters are included in the HF3000 kit.

Looking ahead, you should also try to get along to the AutoHappening event in September - Eric would probably invite you anyway.

Looks like John and I were both writing replies at the same time!

Leda listed the Stratos rear strut in their catalogue leda online shop (http://www.leda.com/Leda/index.html) . May be cheaper direct than via Hawk. I had no trouble getting springs made for the Leda strut - I wanted stiffer ones than standard.

Alfa 12v & 24v brakes are different - make sure you get all matching bits!

Thanks all for your replys and your tips,
I'll look into the forum this week to find out some more, there's a lot of info there and i'm still trying to understand all of the forums possibilities.
