Hi

I'm trying to get some quotes for an HF2000 but I have to say that I have not been too impressed with some of the limited results so far.

Had a trawl through past posts and the agreed value problem seems to have surfaced before so I thought that I would see what others think in the light of any more recent experience.

I want comprehensive SDP, poss commuting on occasions with class 1 business (for rare occasions when Mondeo won't go). Parked on drive (for time being!), 3000 miles.

Tried several places online (including Osborne, Backford Bloor) but they want up to 48 hours to repond.

Adrian Flux want £220 (for 5000 miles, SDP only) with £150 excess - will agree a valuation.

Footman James want about £200 with £100 excess but will only do market value on kit cars. I think this makes no sense at all for just about any kit car, but more especially the low volume models. They could write it off for the price of a windscreen (I suppose). Don't think they will not cover the windscreen separately.

I think around £200 mark is OK, so the now to the questions:

Am I likely to get a better quote on the phone than by going online? - it's certainly quicker.

Anybody know how Adrian Flux agree the value? Engineers report? Club expert?

Anybody had experience with a "market value" claim with Footman James for something near a total loss?

Anybody have a particular recommendation?

Nobody yet has insisted on an alarm - has experience shown that it makes a difference to the premium?

Any comments very welcome.

Hi Peter,
I had a bad experiance with footman james a couple of years ago following a accident involving a third party. Policy was with AXA insurance with Footman the broker. Footman eventually said I had to persue the claim myself with AXA. In the end I won my case but only after 6 months of phone calls twice weekly and supplying a lot of information obtained through the forum re values etc. There expert on valuation was editor of some kit car magazine, not sure which one. Lots more of the story can be found on my thread stratos repairman required.
Regards
Stephen

Thank you Stephen - very useful. Don't know how I missed your thread.

I'd be a fool to ignore your experience here so FJ is out.

MSM out for the same reason.

Backford Bloor very expensive (around £320). There would be further discounts on this so this is very much a ceiling. Very helpful on phone but require garaged at night - something I cannot do for a short while.

Osborne & sons: Comprehensive £181.15 with a £250 excess; Comprehensive (Parts only) £156.12 with a £250 excess. Subject to acceptable proposal form and some documentation (not specified). Can't remember whether this is agreed value. Possible contender here.

Adrian Flux still very much in the game.

Just upgraded my build-up cover to on-road with Flux. £315 p.a. 5k miles p.a. Agreed value, £600 excess (ouch).

Biggest pain is they insist on a Cat I immobiliser for theft cover. Slightly annoying as it already has a Cat II system installed....so I'll have to have that upgraded. Still, I was expecting to throw away half a years lay-up premium and pay over £450 p.a. based on last years quote, so I guess it's not all bad... I'll break even this year and be on a winner from then on. Might as well put the Cat II system in the Westy to replace the old alarm.

I'll stay with Flux as they were pretty good when the Westy was smacked while parked a few years back.

Hi Guys, Ive got a policy through Backford Bloor for £340.
This is for 3k miles per year(can be increased for small premium), agreed value and only a £200 excess.
However, they do not require any alarm or immobiliser at all.

That alone could cost an extra £250 or so.

Hope this helps someone.
Tim

Meant to reply to this one the first time round but seemed to have missed it somehow.
Mine is through Sureterm Direct - N. I. G. Policy.
- HF 2000 Volumex
- fully comp £100 xs
- 5000 miles per year and agreed value. (£15k at moment - Needs Valuation and puts the policy price up quite a bit if you go over £15k)
- Right to buy salvage if written off.
- Car has to have immobiliser (Power cut off ok)
- Has to be Garaged after 10.00pm at night unless on a journey

***...........and after seeing Johns post below.....
no - no claims discount offered or earned......
.... BUT the windscreen is insured up to £500 - £60 xs **

- £230 which I thought was quite good after paying similar amount for build up cover with Fluxies...

I'd like to see the Enthusiasts Club do something with one of the Brokers to get us a discount and easier valuation etc. I suggested it as a consortium project once but it fell by the wayside. :(

Good luck
Rob

I thought my insurance was around £250, through Osborne's.

Limited to 6000 miles per year (can increase that if needed). No alarm or immobiliser specified. Car is garaged, but no specific rules on the policy about putting it away for the night (it has spent a lot of time on the drive before). Can't use to drive to/from work though, which is a standard exclusion clause. Overseas cover included (groan).

Protected no-claims, which also goes back for many years :-)

Invalidity discount not applicable...

Backford Bloor have just quoted me for insurance. Comprehensive, Value £25000, mileage limit 3000, £200 excess for damage /fire /theft. £50 windscreen excess. Fully agreed guaranteed value subject to Valuation report & photographs.
Annual premium £41.05!!!!!! Inclusive of IPT & £10 admin fee.
Does this seem too good to be true to everybody else? Or is it a benefit of garaging it in Hicksville, Nowhereshire and being an old b*****d with protected no claims?

Buy now and get a spare policy for me. Bet I'm an older b*****d than you.

That has to be a typo doesn't it Chris?? I'm waiting for a quote from them myself as it happens. Not particuarly thrilled with the cover and limitiations on my Flux policy as when the covernote arrived, it turned out I wasn't allowed to drive the car to work. Plus the ridiculous excess and the insistnece on a Cat 1 alarm.

I'll report back when BB give me a price. Last quote from Osbournes was £350 for a parts-only policy, fully comp with £250 excess. Still not right I don't think.

Perhaps I should move to Hickshire. I'm certainly an old git, so qualify on that parameter at least.

Just had a reply from MSM. Looks pretty good so far. Allows me to & from work, occasional business use. No alarm/immob reqd (although it has both). MSM came recommended by the Westfield gang - what was your bad experience with them Peter?

"From the details that you supplied to us, and subject to a satisfactory proposal form, our quotation for comprehensive cover is £329.40 per annum including UK & European breakdown cover (without breakdown cover is £293.40). This is based on you being able to show evidence of 5 or more years claim free driving.

Policy excess is £300 for accident damage, fire and theft. Unlimited windscreen cover subject to a £60 excess."

Still waiting to hear from BB...but cheapest isn't always best of course...

Is the comprehensive cover parts only, or full works? I'm worried about them considering it a write off because the value is lower than the repair cost.

I've been with MSM for a few years now. One claim for a cracked screen was paid by return, in full, no questions and no excesses as I agreed to fit it myself. I don't want to think what would happen if I had to make a write off claim from anyone though!

Thanks Guy, personal experience is always valuable info. I guess that ultimately, the very best we want from our insurance is never to need it.

Flux are starting to really p155 me off now...I got home yesterday to find they have returned my mileage declaration upon change of vehicle form because I hadn't put the previous vehicle registration number and mileage on the form, just a couple of 'N/A's'. Given that I haven't changed vehicle, only the type of cover, and a pile of parts isn't likey to have accumulated much mileage, I'd have thought they would figure it out. They claim to be specialists....I'm not seeing anything very special at the moment and I can see a long term custom ending soon.
