Can anyone tell me what the intake and exhaust valve clearances should be. Valve clearance is set with lash caps or buttons of different thickness, where can I find a source for these buttons. Valve stems are 7mm.

John,
If you have solid lifters on a 24V motor then you need to know which cams you have...as they aren't standard. Gap info would be supplied with the cams.
All standard 24V motors have hydraulic lifters with no adjustment.

7mm stem valves are used in many Nascar spec engines so try CV products for lash caps ;

You would need to have them surface ground to the thicknesses you want.

The engine is from the factory competiton rally effort back in the mid '70's, the car is a Dino 246GTS Ferrari.

When I bought the engine I was sent valve settings as follows:
Inlet 0.008" - 0.010" (0.20 - 0.24)
Exhaust 0.010" - 0.012" (0.25 - 0.30)
Does this make any sense?

John it's a pitty to use an engine such as yours in a 246. It's worth 2 times the price of the car. 2 24 valve engines exchanged hands recently at around 100K euro each...
Roberto will be able to help you as will Randle Roberts (on here) or Udo Sparwald (info@sparwald.de).
