OK, not Stratos related, but it is about the parent company (Fiat).

Fiat has just announced that the ownership of Maserati, currently wholly owned by Ferrari, will be transferred as soon as practicable to Fiat Group.

The move forsees that Alfa Romeo and Maserati will co-operate closely, both technically and commercially – particularly in important international markets.

Maserati will, however, continue its co-operation with Ferrari – especially in industrial, technical, engine and sales network terms – which has helped re-vitalise the marque.

Probably doesn't help much with views of a future for Lancia though :-(

Not sure if it's of interest, but General Motors and Fiat have recently terminated their relationship as well. GM spent US $2 billion to get out of the 'put' option that Fiat had in their mutual stock purchase.

So, instead of one large, bankrupt corporation, we'll continue to have two...

That also leaves Alfa Romeo with no big engines - since by all accounts they were planning on the joint Fiat/GM V6! We'll have lots of nice Maserati and Alfa bodies but with no power plants! At least we've still got a Brit in charge of Maserati, but it's the wrong end of the country for Lancia Enthusiasts!

Maybe not - according to GM's website, the Fiat-GM powertrain joint venture will continue to supply both companies during a transitional period to avoid distruptions to their respective operations.

In addition, there are long term agreements in place to supply each other with powertrains. Presumably, GM will continue to source Diesel engines through Fiat, and Fiat will continue to use the GM v-6.

At least until a Ferrari developed v-6 trickles down through Maserati back into Fiat...
