Any advise on alu and/or fibreglass etching primers? I have some normal primer, the salesman said it would do but I'm not so sure.

Go for acrylic primer filler in my view. I have used that on my Midas reacently. You can then paint with cellulose (live longer) or 2 pack stuff that you need a full respirator system for. Cellulose i think is easier to use with little or no previous experience. You can usually polish out blemishes.
Word of warning to those painting Glassfibre. Dont sand the gelcoat too hard or you end up with lots of tiny holes when you breakthrough to air bubbles trapped in the gel coat, they are really time consuming to fill. Luckly I was doing the midas first so wont make the same mistake again.

Absolutely essential on metal! I use ICI Autocolor P565-908 Etch Primer which comes in an aerosol (a bit pricey and they don't like to sell to to the public, but paint specialists have it). It dries almost instanly, sticks like sh... and takes any paint.

And do not forget to dewax thouroughly before doing any paintwork or even preparation because the gel coat may have contained wax.
Somebody correct me if I am wrong.
Etch primer is said to help by "experts" I have contacted, and essential on the aluminium louvres.

What about cure temperature, is 15C the absolute min or will the 2 pack paint/primer just dry slower at a lower temp? Chemistry wise a 10C change will double the reaction rate, never studied polymerisation though so bit stuck on a final answer. A local sprayer says no problem at less than 10C, just use a fast thinners.
