Could anybody reliably inform me about registring my hawk.
I have had the body/chassis for many years now and have got a 12 valve alfa engine and box. The Engine/box assembly came from a car in a breakers yard. At the time, i was given the registration number verbally,I have receipts for the engine but obviously no v5 from the donor alfa.
Question is does the vro require the v5 document from the donor or, is knowing the original reg enough for them to do their checks.
John.

I would guess that you'll be starting from scratch and have to go through the SVA system. I think receipts are enough for that.

John,
If you can remember the registration number, you can get a copy V5 from the DVLC. This will state the engine number, and so long as it matches the lump, you've got a good history.
Try the search on the forum - I recall there's a bunch of advice re registering your motor already posted.
Arthur.

Hi John
I think you will need to prove the engines age for the SVA test anyway so that you get the right emissions test. Otherwise they will go with the strictest test.
As for registration, l'd try and get the V5 copy if you can so that you can prove it came from a live car. (not sure if you can do this if the car is scrapped though???) The DVLA will give you a Q reg if you don't register the car as a Rebuilt Car / Kit. To get through this type of registration you need to prove (as a minimum) the engine and box came from a single car and then you can use the age of this 'donor' car to get a new age related plate.
Try and get through to your local DVLA vehicle inspector, he will be to give you his views, as it will be him you have to satisfy. Ring the DVLA 0800 number and asked to be put through. The Nottingham VI is Rick Youd. If you can get hold of him he is very helpful. You may need to leave a message and get a call back when he is in the office. - Try Fridays!
I'll send you a PM with my phone number, you can ring me to discuss if you want, I got my car through earlier this year.
Cheers

Spent all night looking for my box of receipts etc, looks like the missus has binned em!!. Now reckon i'll have to buy a donor car complete and sell my other engine/box on. :( One step forward, two steps back?!*

Hi John,
Thinking again, you'll probably also need a receipt for the chassis / Body too, to prove that it was new, otherwise the dreaded Q plate again! This may be the easiest route if you have no receipts. You could always try Gerry H, see if he has a copy? ;)
I have heard that there may be a way around changing from a Q plate though (no facts, just hearsay). I think it may have involved an Irish plate but I'm not sure. Anyone else come across this?
Alternatively look at some of the other threads around this subject. There may be one or two cars out there still registered as a Beta......all you need is an MOT and insurance to match. IMHO very risky, but that’s just me.

Bought a 24 valve car, complete. All i need to do now is ask gerry if he has a copy of my original receipt.(the original was just one of those carbon copy receipt book jobbies anyway that you can buy from most stationry suppliers).
Hopefully he'll be able to help out.
If anybody requires any 164 parts then get in touch, but you can't have me engine!!!

I think it has been mentioned elsewhere but might be worth repeating here, that a guy called Paul Jepson ( ex DVLA) is offering help and advice for kit car registrations. He gave me his card at Donnington. Tel. nos. 01189842303 and 07748702987.
