Hi my name is Ricky and I recently purchased a Hawk Gp4 car (almost complete but totally unstarted). I am intending to fully build the kit, from start to SVA in 2 months. I would love the opportunity to see a complete car (with Lancia twin cam), so if you have one and live in or near north london please call me. I intend to paint the car full "al Italia" livery, if anyone has had this done please call me. call 020 8346 1500. 9am -12 or 7pm - 10pm. thanks.

Hi Ricky
Welcome to the forum, Most answers to any querries you have will be available on the forum. Use the search engine and you will gain a lot of very useful info. 2 months is a tall order in anyones eyes. Most quotes on time have been in the thousands of hours so it will be interesting to see how you fare. Iam sure you will get a lot of encouragement from all on the forum
Good Luck

It might be worth a trip up to Donnington next weekend to see a completed car and discuss any missing parts with Gerry plus talk to a few builders!

"Tis better to travel in hope than to arrive...." or something.
Sorry, I don't subscribe to that that one.
Ricky, desperately dull this may sound, but you need to get a realistic look at what you're taking on. My own motor (CorseI) took, in my own estimation, 1100 hours, not including paint and trimming. Paint took about 2 weeks, trimmimg about 6 days. There's 3 weeks of your schedule shot already. Do you have a full and complete wiring loom, with full switch and control set, and full lighting set? If not, the loom is a minimum 2 weeks work, if you have drawings, and sourcing the rest of the bits - who knows. If you need to do your own drawings, add another 7 to 14 days.
And that estimation is for what's on the car; not included are all the side-roads I went down and chucked in the bin at the finish.
Better to estimate what you can really do, and set a target you can achieve. That way you'll enjoy the build process, budget realistically, and have a hell of a car at the end of it.
Whatever you decide, all the best with it, and if it doesn't already exist on this forum, then any questions can be answered (pretty much!)
Arthur.

Guy,
Forgive the ignorance, but what's happening at Donnington this/next weekend? I'm afraid I've been out of touch for a while and considering I've just placed an ad. on the Wanted section for a Grp. 4 replica, it might be useful for me to attend. Especially as I'm only about 20 minutes away.
By the way, good luck Stephen, and welcome.

Mick,
This weekend is the Donnington Sports and Performance Car Show. As I understand it both Hawk and Napiersport will be there with stands, so it's a Stratos Fest. See you there!!

There should be at least one GP4 Hawk in the car park on Sunday too!
Rob
PS Richard, my "90% complete" part built find, took me 3 long, hard years and almost a divorce, to pull apart /re do and get on the road! Absolutely worth the pain it can sometimes be though.
Best of luck, if we can help with any advice at all just ask here. Rob

Hello again Rob.
To be honest, I'm hoping to see more than one in the car park. As I'm now in the market for one, ( yes everyone out there. I am looking for a group 4 replica if you know of one. See wanted ad in Buy/Sell forum) I hope there will be several with 'For Sale' signs in the window.
Seriously, I think I'll be going down on Saturday for a good look round. Are you going?
Mick :p

Ricky,
Go for it, I almost built my Hawlk kit from new in FIVE weeks including changing the roll cage, painting it and making new engine mounts for the V6. and oil cooler, plus made new stainless petrol tank (stronger) made / fitted Bilstein rear struts and rose jointed the car only needed wiring and front brakes to finish and that is when the S**t hit the fan. I failed to get the wiring sorted and got so pi**ed off from a hugh effort, I walked away from the car last December and never went near it since !! I do beleive it is possible to do it in two months once everthing goes your way.
Any chance your looking for a nice 2 litre Beta engine and box ? I have still one for sale.
Gerard.

SVA ready in 2 months of uninterrupted productive work with every single piece to hand - no problem. Finished car will likely take you a bit longer though... Depending on your thinking, SVA ready can mean totally and utterly complete, or a bare-bones no trim, no paint shell. Either could work.
I've spent 5 years doing my Corse S so far..stopped counting the hours 3 years ago. Car has been away for paint for 4 weeks so far and they are probably about half way through (not because it's taken them 4 weeks you understand - they sat on it for 3 of those weeks...).
But good luck Ricky and keep us posted !
