There is an article in the issue of "Cobra" which comes as a freeby with the August issue of "Kitcar" (UK) about a chap who's providing a service doing all the paperwork around your SVA & V5 registration, with the aim of avoiding a Q plate, and taking the hassle out of the paperwork. He's an ex DVLA flunkey who has retired after working in the Reading office processing kitcar applications, so he knows how to work the system to advantage. Name of Paul Jepson 011888 984 2303 or 07748 702987. £35 for the SVA bit, £50 for the V5 service.

The article comments that until 1st January 2004, you could get your tax disc without showing your V5, but now they have to see it at the Post Office, and if it says Lancia Beta and your MOT and Insurance say Transformer, HF3000, Allora or whatever, you'll be sent away with your tail between your legs to start at the beginning again and get an SVA. Major hassle and work. This means that cars being sold with donor registration documents should be subject to a major discount considering what's going to have to be done before it can be taxed and used on the road.

Bit steep for filling in a couple of forms!!? Best of luck to him though I'm sure there will be people who want to go this way.

See article in this next SEC newsletter regarding SVA and most of the things you need to know / think about for any Strato's replica. Plus a planned article for the following newsletter on the reg process and hopefully example forms too. There's loads of info on how to do it freely available on quite a few forums/web sites such as totalkitcar.com (http://www.totalkitcar.com/tech_registration.shtml) or even our own for info on test tips and details like axle weights for our cars.

Unless you've no doner docs or receipts for anything, It's not hard to avoid a Q plate.

If I can find time to understand what to do and how to do it, anyone can! :)

I'll try and help any Enthusiasts club member for Free!!!
after all that's one of the reasons to join a club?

cheers

Ah yes, Mr Jepson, he was the fellow who registered my car a few yeas ago – he was pretty easy to convince that I had used enough parts from the donor vehicle to get the score required for a period registration number. The only other bits he needed were, a copy of the original receipt for the chassis from Transformer/Hawk, plus the all important SVA certificate.

As Rob says, there are only a few forms to fill in, all in all, a relatively easy job, definitely not worth £50 !.

Cheers,
Chris
