:D :D :D MY ENGINE GOES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) :D :)

Fired it up tonight for the first time and WOW!!! What a noise! Brilliant!! These 24-valves sound the dog's bollocks, they really do! It's taken 20 months to get it to this since I took delivery of the engine, and it's been blood sweat & tears, but tonight that all melted into insignificance. However, if I was doing it again, I certainly wouldn't do it the same way, but that's probably a story for the newsletter! The final gotcha that has defeated me for a couple of days was that I'd forgotten the Alfa ECU software cuts off power to the fuel pump unless the engine is turning - I was baffled what was wrong when I couldn't get the fuel pump relay to activate. It does when the starter turns the engine and the crank sensor detects it.

Thanks a million guys, I couldn't have got there without you. Thank you for putting up with my persistent stupidity. Isn't the internet a great thing?

Did I mention?
MY ENGINE GOES, MY ENGINE GOES, MY ENGINE GOES, MY ENGINE GOES!!! :D :D :D

Even I worked out MEG means My Engine Goes Chris! This euphoria thing does go to the head doesn't it! Same for me when the Volumex fired on the FIRST turn of the key after 3 years of building! Same story with the Alfa another 3 years later!!

Anyway, congratulations! The next step is moving it under it's own power! It gets REALLLLY exciting then!

No, that's the alcohol the euphoria persuades you to celebrate with!

Well done, Chris.

You had better write a book about it for all those future 24V convertees out there.

I'm still trying to work out how to get beyond that 'unfinished car' stage myself

Well done chris, I know exactly how you feel. An awsome feeling!
I bet it gets started up every week from now on until it's on the road.
- just to keep it 'turned over' of course.....
