For front suspension on my car, I have one straight Spax and one bent Spax.
If I'm looking to buy some replacement front shox, what's the best (value for money) coil over shock absorber manufacturer to go for?

I have SPAX coilovers on the front of my STRATOS. Never had any problems, but now you got me worried Chris... How did you manage to bend yours??? And what type are they??? Mine are G453-AS200... And I have a set of brand new ones for spares...
Please set my mind at ease if you can...
A worried PANOS now... :(

I bought the rally car that hit a tree.
Don't worry, Spax are ok, for the road at least.

Ah Chris, If you are using the car for rallying I might be tempted to pay the extra for Leda (tarmac use) or Bilstein if contemplating the rough stuff. I have to say never had much luck with spax on road cars, Imps, Clans and the like but that was nearly two decades ago! gud am I that old!!

I've found that Spax are fine for Road cars as long as they are protected from the worst of road dirt / water etc.
I've done this in the past with either overall covering of fabric / vinyl material - ie stuff the spax and spring inside a "sausage skin" made of same or find suitable plastic bottle to slide over the spring from the top to keep worst of mud / water off. Large size washing up liquid bottles from Sainsbury's worked best in the past - don't know about now though.
The underlying problem with the Spaxs seemed to be that the operating rod - shiny chrome bit - was prone to pitting and this then knackered the seal over time leading to premature failure. Keeping the worst of the muck off led to normal service lives!
Hope this helps

Peter
I've seen the rusty plating on the rod/blown seal problem on a pair of Beta Leda struts.
I've got a spare pair of old Leda struts now, and the centre rods are in an awful rusty mess.

Stephen (SUSIT),
The car I have USED to be a rally car. I doubt I'll be rallying it.
A Clan Crusader eh? That must have been exciting.

FWIW, I opted for 1.9" AVO Pro-race with spherical joints
