View Full Version : Yet another trivial request..

Sorry about this folks, but I have yet another Corse related trivial question...

Could someone with a CAE Corse do me a picture (or a description) of the data plate please? I don't have one and think I'll be needing to make something for the nice SVA man. I've got one of those lovely replica ones but don't think it would be a smart move to try it :)

I'm starting to think we might need another section in the forum too.....

Thanks

Chris, which data plate is this? The chassis plate with CAE marking?

Hi John,

Yep - that's the chap. The one I have to put things like weights & chassis number on (I think...).

I've stamped the chassis at the back but understand I need the makers plate at the front as well. Hugh gave me a chassis number from his pool of spares a couple of years back.

I've attached a photo of my CAE plate (I still can't upload to the galley). I stamped the VIN number underneath to satisfy the UK inspectors
(although it's on the chassis right next to the plate!)

Oops, I can only attach tiny jpgs! I can direct mail a better resolution copy if you need it.

Dave,
thanks for the photo that clarifies it.
Chris,
I am currently sorting out the supply of these. Will now make it urgent!
I saw the list of chassis numbers the other day and noted that yours was on it, and I added my own.
If anybody else out there has a Corse or Litton (or Allora for that matter too)
and you would like to add your chassis numbers to the record, then please let me know by email or PM.
Shall I take it you would like a plate then Chris?

Dave,

That's brilliant - thank you...I was intending to stamp plate & chassis on the grounds that if it's done nobody can complain it isn't...where would we be without the pedants??? (I know, much happier :) )

...and John, if you are about to sort these out then yes please, I'd love a CAE one.

Thanks guys.

Right, I'm off to try and hide some wires inside my roof spoiler......this is where I find out just how hollow the moulding is

Chris,

I've obviously missed a good idea here - what do you have that needs wiring though the spoiler? Sat aerials, WiFi hub??

Even my telephone-exchange on wheels hasn't got wires in the spoiler! (Yet!)

perhaps a high level LED brake light.....

Dave, I'm dissapointed - I though your car was practically made of flexible PCBs... ;)

Speaking of which, that would be a great way to get some wires into the spoiler if it was done when they are made (idea for you John??).

Tim - good call....it's a high level brakelight (but bulbs, not LEDs so you don't win the mystery prize ;) ).

I was going to put one in the rear louver but (don't laugh) it obscured what little rear vision there is so I had a re-think. Couldn't bring myself to have dangly wires showing so I spent far too long threading some through to the upper mounting pillars and down inside those.

...and it wasn't very hollow either...

I found a very long, thin LED light which exactly fitted into a louvre, without protruding downwards.

I only use flexible PCBs on F1-type projects - they're too hard to modify! The Stratos is a mass of ECUs and clumsy break-out connectors so I can tap into any signal for debug or modification. I couldn't face making yet another wiring loom after the engine-swap.

Ah, I wanted one of those nice thin chappies but couldn't find one at the time. I seem to end up with not quite what I wanted all too often, then spend flippin' ages making it work. The one I got is the same as fitted to the MGF. Looks really small until you try and fit it. I had to make a housing to sling it under the roof spoiler. Actually looks OK (I think...) but heaven knows what it's going to do to the carefully managed airflow :D

I think loom design for cars is an under-appreciated field. Having done a couple of messy DIY ones, it makes you apprecite the craft in making a good one....the sooner we can buy all the gadgets we need with serial comms the better.

Chris, I had the idea when I first saw the car.
But, not sure if I am brave enough when the roof spoiler has been fitted and painted.

Will leave it as a 'nice to do' if major body work or rebuild is ever required.

Please post some pix after the paintjob.
