There's a Stratos on consignment at some auto place in Las Vegas. I called for curiousity's sake since it says "price reduced." Here's the link:

I have to say the wheels and cheesy Ferrari stickers look pretty bad. And the price? $112,500 (ouch!)

That car has been discussed here before, it's been for sale for well over a year. It's main interest is that it's chassis #3, i.e. one of the first 8 cars produced and reserved to competition. Last Thursday I saw chassis #5 in Germany being restored. Owned by a Japanese an ex-Munari-Maiga Alitalia car in very bad shape.

That explains why the wheels are not original, but should it not have the round bodied Group IV bodywork?

If this is indeed chassis #3 it competed the Lyon-Charbonnières rally in 1973 and the Rally of Sicily in 1974 running plate number A6 14058.
It has apparently been reverted to stradale spec but only its chassis is interesting as it could obtain an FIA gold passport and be eligible to many events. Not that other Stratos aren't but having a car with racing history is a definte plus, especially a factory run one.
I will have more information on it this evening.

OK according to my queries this cannot be chassis #3, there's either a typo or something very fishy...

The correct chassis is 829 ARO 001003, not the one stated in the ad.
This is a stradale and is part of the Marlboro Car Collection in England, the price is right.

I am just curious as to why this price is right. AFAIK, the last 2 Stratos' for sale in the USA appeared to be much nicer than this and sold for less than 90k (one showed up here in Michigan). This was last year. Inflation?

It's difficult to find a clean car for less than 90-100K euros in Europe. Prices are a bit lower in the US for several reasons (appeal is one of them) but that is the case for US Ferraris too for instance. Dollar effect.
And yes prices have gone up. My explanation is that many are attracted by historic rallying and other events and this fact brings prices of eligible or desirable cars in those categories higher. There may be other reasons too.

Could the enthusiasm shown on this forum have anything to do with it as well?

Some should buy a Stratos now only to get the wheels from Gerry...

Or like one consortium member, get the wheels to remind him to buy a car one day......
