View Full Version : Track Rod Ends for Litton Steering Rack

I currently have a Corse I fitted with a Litton Rack and need to replace the track rod ends. Unfortunately I have been unable to locate a match and would very much appreciate any hints and tips as to which make and model of car the parts were originally sourced from.
The existing thread on the rack is M14 x 2mm pitch, having tried Granada track rod ends, the thread is correct but the taper is incorrect (too small).
Any help would be very much appreciated….
Steve.

Steve,
I believe they are Princess.

Steve,
I went straight for 1/2" rose joints on my Corse S. I had to 'machine' my own steering arms and it just seemed simpler to run a simple 1/2" hole through it than try to cut a taper. Also allows for one more simple adjustment in the event of problems dialling out bump steer.
I got my rack direct from Titan to Corse I specification (allegedly), but it came with 1/2" UNF threads on the steering arms (which were too long) so it's likely from that, and what you say about yours being a metric thread, that I didn't actually get what I should have. Not a big problem as I just shortened them and cut the thread as required, but it was a bit irritating to have to re-work the flippin' thing. If I hadn't had to wait 6 months for it I might have chucked it back, but once I got it in my mits I didn't want to lose sight of it!

I shall be my useful unhelpful self and say that I threw the boxes away years ago. But since the arms came off a grubby purple Princess, I concur with Dave.

As reported the extensions to the rack are from a Princess.
BUT
There are two types fitted to the princess and The later Ambassador
You need the later type.
Many rack bars were produced for the Litton , with 2 problems, The rack teeth are not correctly positioned to the bar length, requiring the bar to measured and shortened , and the bar is oversize,
Also , dependant on your rim and tyre configuration , you may need to fit a spacer to stop the inner edge of the tyre fouling the inner wheel arch.
ADDITIONALLY THERE WERE TWO RACK MOUNTINGS TO ALLOW FOR REMOVAL OF bUMP STEER

not all Litton racks were so problematical, some did the job as received. A spacer to reduce the steering lock is necessary with wider wheels (definitely on 9x16 inch, possibly not on 8x17 inch), the rim fouled on the front suspension arm on mine, not on wing or bodywork.
The rack mounting brackets are slotted on my Corse I, giving fine bump steer adjustment. There is an incompatibilty between I and S front suspension parts and mounting points, check they are all I spec otherwise the bumpsteer will never go away. (I do know what I'm talking about on this point :p )

My S is quite the little mongrel really - I raised the rack mounting rail on advice from Hugh and have found that I can dial out the bumpsteer OK by using those nice slots you mention. I did have a bit of an issue with the rack bar fouling the upper wishbone at full lock/full droop, but I had way too much droop anyway (), so sorted that by reducing the shock open length.
Not seeing any clearance problems with 7 x 16 wheels & 205/50/16 tyres thankfully.
