Hi, can anyone tell me what is required to take part in the sprints and or track day events (apart from a car).

I have been an AROC member for 6 years, but never taken any of my Alfa's on track.
I do not hold any race license, but I understand that the Membership card is required for MSA events.

I do plan to event my Corse i, but I am unsure what is required i the way of insurance, license etc.

I am also aware that a helmet is required for some events, but are overalls, gloves required as well, if so, what spec?

Many thanks for any advice.

Morning Tim from the sunny north of Scotland, Glad to hear you plan to use your Stratos for thr purpose it was desinged for.
The best plan would be to get hold of last years copy of the MSA competiors yearbook. It has all the rules and tells you all you need to know. I dont have a licence for this year as yet or would send you mine.
You do need to be a member of a MSA affiliated motor club to take part in any event. Some events are open to members of any motor club some only a limited number, Down side to that is you can end up having to join several clubs. The Stratos Club SEC has applied to the RAC MSA for membership but it is still going through.
The mininum required for sprints is as follows ( someone correct me if I am wrong please )

1. Club membership ( £15 - £25 )
2. Any National B Licences ( £31 For 2004 )
3. Road worthy car - No modifications required, you can use a lap and diagonal seat belt if you wish. ( would personally always fit 4 point harness.
4. Fire proof overalls ( £100 up new. My 3 layer nomex made to measure from AWS was £350 4 years ago )
5. Helmet ( £100 up ) must have correct safety sticker. I dont have this years rule book so cant quote latest spec. )
6. Gloves optional for sprinting.
7. Insurance. The event will carry insurance in case you kill anybody but you or your car are at your own risk. Normal highway insurance usually excludes any form of motorsport event.
8. you need to attach a beam splitter to the front of your car to activate the timing system. (most people make there own )

I hope this is all of help.

Hi again, my intention is to attend a few track days as a way of exploring the handling traits, limitations and vices of the car in a safe(ish) manner, whilst hopefully having a damn good time.

I also like the sound of the sprints, but will have to attend a few before I commit to taking part.

I believe that the Stratos club is trying to become MSA approved, so this should eventually solve one issue.

Will have a hunt for helmet specs and license details.

Cheers for the info.

Hi again Tim,
For track days you dont need a licence and i dont think your helmet need to meet RAC approval.
Lots of other cars on the track though! Most circuts have days where you can pay to test with few others around. Not sure of present day prices. Knockhill my local circut use to be £35 for a whole day, as many laps as you like. Long time ago.
Good luck and hope to see you at Abington.
