Hi
Anyone got a dip stick hanging around at home (not the mrs, I got one of them expensive ones):D
I'ts for a Volumex but I'm not sure if they are all the same length?
the end's fallen off mine:eek:

Also after a Flywheel coverplate, although a well known Scottish Roll cage manufacturering owner has promised me one if we pass one another in the north of the country one day. PS Steve, hope you got your money back from the last tour south.

cheers
Rob:cool:

Hi Rob, memory of all things Beta is a little vague but coming back as I retype this reply! The Volumex has a tube bolted to the side of the supercharger that the dipstick slides into. The dipstick has a plastic centre section to allow it to flex as it's pushed into the curved tube. The standard Beta one doesn't need this as there is no external tube, it fits straight into the block and would be almost impossible to get at underneath the supercharger.
My memory of the two engines is that the sump arrangements and pumps are identical so a standard dipstick will do the job if you can physically get it into the hole in the block, the oil level markings should be in the same place.
The only real way of checking is to find someone with a complete dipstick and measure its' length from the rubber seal to the low oil mark, deduct the length of the tube and compare it to the length of a normal one. This will allow you to replace the intermediate plastic tube with a new one of the right length.

I suspect that you'll end up just getting a complete dipstick for a VX! and sorry, I haven't got that or a flywheel cover plate.

Think that I may have both items, but need to find time to get up to the other garage to confirm.

Hi Rob.
Good to hear you are nearing getting on the road at last. I had forgoten adout the flywheel cover plate to be honest. Will have a look at the engine today. Hamish may be able to do you a volumex dip thing. If you send him a pm I am sure he will see what he can do. I am hoping to get down for Abington. There is a chap in your are wanting to buy my 1800 Beta engine and that would pay for the trip. If your car is not road legal by then I would be happy to tow it down to Abington if you can get hold of a trailer. I dont think you need to be road legal to enter the sprint in the stratos class!
Will give you a call in the next couple of days

regards
Stephen
