Can you advise as to whether the Spyder chassis used the Beta read subframe and generally were there were any issues or standard enhancements required with this frame(eg suspension pickup points etc)

Secondly is there a web site which will confirm a Lancia Beta engine type and age by the number?

Thirdly, is there a web site which will confirm an Alfa 3L engine type (Cloverleaf?) and age by engine number?

I can answer your first question: None of the Spyder chassis (SPY prefix) used the Beta subframe and I recall that there were only four chassis that did (MM prefix). The Spyder chassis is the lightest of all the chassis produced by Transformer/Hawk having sheet fabricated box section for the engine frame. The roll cage is smaller in tube diameter than the later chassis, which makes it easier to trim but less suited to competition. Spyder chassis were finshed in stove enamel ( various colours) as opposed to black powder coating on later chassis (SD prefix on).
The only area that needs checking is the upper seat belt mounting hole (3 point); the tube reinforcer sometimes had inadequate weld coverage from the back.

for your third question, try asking on the alfa digest forum
alfa forum (http://www.digest.net/alfa/FAQ/164/bin/dcforum/dcboard.cgi)

Second question, think there is a US site something like *lancisti*.* which might have that.

Third question, I will have a look at the Alfa parts cd. Using a chasiss no. the build date/type is shown, not sure if that works with just the engine No. but will try.
