My car was originally built using 4mm glassfibre for the inner wings. I've also got a pair cut out of 16G aluminium (1.8/2mm?)
Which to use? Oooohh, I can't decide:(Anybody any words of wisdom out there?
I suppose the metal will stay more intact in a shunt where the glassfibre would disappear.

16SWG is 1.6mm, its the easy one to remember as its when the swg & metric sizes meet.... (well if you ignore the factor of ten out;) ).... look at an swg chart and you'll get my drift:

10SWG = 3.3mm
11 = 3.0
12 = 2.6
13 = 2.3
14 = 2.0
15 = 1.8
16 = 1.6
17 = 1.4
18 = 1.2
19 = 1.0
20 = 0.9
21 = 0.8
22 = 0.7

I have thought about this a lot recently and I think I will be using
Kaylan. (spelling may be wrong ) Its very flexable and abrasion resistant, Down side is it may be a bit heavier than alloy but it does come in a range of thicknesses.

In the Hawk, the inner wings are part of the radiator top mounts, well, theyare the radiator top mounts, so need to be rigid. I am toying with the idea of Kaylan protection of the bodywork inside the arches.

The aluminium ones went in this week, as per the committee's wishes!
