I think it would be a good idea if those of us who want some of the new Michelin TB15 tyres got together and made up a decent order that we can go to the dealers with and get a discount.

The tyre sizes that we are applicable to us are

rim size
15/60-15 6
18/60-15 7

23/62-15 8/9
26/61-15 10-12
29/61-15 10-12

The first two sizes are for the front and would need to be fitted to 6" and 7" rims respectively. Personally, I think they are a little too tall, but if you are after originality then these are what you want.

The other three sizes are for the rear and would need to be fitted to the rim sizes listed.

The tyres are all road legal, but might be found slightly wanting in heavy rain, but if it`s dry or damp, the extra grip from these tyres is well worth having especially for anyone thinking of doing some motorsport or track days.

Both of the companies that sell these tyres will be at the Historic Motorsport Show, so we need to get an order together and play the two off against eachother and get the best price.

I am now away for a few days, so make your comments or commitment and we can have numbers in place by the end of the coming week.

The tyres are supposed to cost about £200+vat each but people are being a bit vague about it. We should be able to get quite a lump off this price for a decent order

The TB15 tire available tire sizes and prices can be found here:

http://www.horag.com/products/roadlegal/roadlegal.html

There are efforts to get a grouped order by Thomas Popper also and he will come up with a price directly from Michelin for the Stratos Owners Club early next week.
I guess Thomas will be able to gather quite a few orders but apparently delivery of the goods will be at Biela, Italy.

I think we should really coordinate on this one as the more orders we get the lower the price will be.

My personnal opinion is that for people who have ordered replica wheels the best solution would be to have the tires fitted in England and the wheel/tire combos sent out in one lot.

Jerry, in you r earlier thread you said that modern Dunlops were a better tyre than the TB15s, so I don't follow why we would want to buy the old technology ones. Is it just in the interests of originality? (Zarathrustra would be proud!;) )

Easy one:
No modern tire will fit a 12"x15" wheel. This has been discussed in the wheels thread.

Thomas is not interested in joining any effort made here regarding tires. I will forward the prices he's able to negotiate on them next week and then we can see what can be arranged.

I WILL BE INTERESTED IN A COUPLE OF THE
26/61-15 OR 23/62-15 FOR MY 10" REAR WHEELS.
UNLESS SOMEBODY CAN SUGGEST SOMETHING ELSE...
I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR A SET FOR ALMOST A YEAR NOW WITH NO SUCCESS!!!

Hi Jerry
I'd be after a pair of 26's.
I 'd have to know the price first though to finally decide. A pair is all I could stretch to.
Hopefully we can get the price down, £200 + VAT is steep I think. I know it must have cost them to re-make, but they also know there is a gap in the market / demand for them or they wouldn't have done it.
I wonder who is actually making the biggest margin on them Michelin or the tyre dealers??

Thanks
Rob

I would also be wanting 2 tyres....26/61-15 's for the forthcoming season...... probably better than running on rims !

Any further comments on the eligibility of these tyres for rallying, especially in the larger widths for the rear of Grp.4 Strat's?

Jerry - any progress on getting your car 'log booked' for rallying?

John, in rallying, cars upto 3L are allowed rim widths upto 10". This should include the width of the tyre, and on my 10" rim, the 26/61`s are about 10.5" wide. I can`t see even the worst Gestapo scrutineer throwing these out, especially if you point out that there`s nothing else to use. The 29/61`s are 12.2" wide fitted to a 10" rim and these might just raise an eyebrow. They would be even wider fitted to a 12" rim.
The 23/62`s would be fine, but they are a bit taller and gear the car up even more. I`ve got some old 23/59`s which are good fitted to a 9" rim and I would take them to events just in case.

The logbooking is a little slow, everything is done apart from the rear fireproof bulkhead, but I have to confess that most of my time and money has gone towards getting the second car ready.
I`m sure that when Dave publishes the dates for the Motorsport Challenge it will galvanise my mind

Jerry, have you had any problems getting the original rollcage through, or have you replaced it?

Hi Chris,
I haven`t actually taken my car to be log booked yet,but it should be fine because although it is of smaller diameter tube than should be used now, the RAC MSA rollcage test certificate that Gerry supplied me with will meet the necessary requirements, as long as it has door bars (which mine has now).

Some advice on TB15s and TB5s, please. Will the 23/62-15 fit the standard Stradale bodywork without fouling? Also, I'm waiting for the TB5s, but what mileage can one expect with the TB15s in road use? I presently have P7s om 9" rims (the original pattern - now some 15 years old - I do les than a 1000 km per year). Many thanks. Andres

There is no chance the 23/62 will fit inside the Stadale wheel arches. It will protrude by at least 3cm per side and look really ugly.

The TB15 is very soft and not recommended in hot weather, i.e. above 30° tarmac temperature as it will disintegrate as you watch it. In winter time, over here at least, you can expect them to last 3000Km max. if you don't push them too much. I guess they could last 3-4 track days.
TB5 must be more adequate for road use but since I haven't seen them yet I reserve my judgement.
There's unfortunately a very small selection of tires that will fit a 9"x15" wheel. The only tire I have found, and which is street legal, is the Avon ACB10 in 245/40x15" but even this one is given as 8.5" max rim width. You should be able to fit it on the 9"x15" though. It must be super soft however.
