Hi,

There's a new DVD out "La Lancia Stratos by Bernard Darniche".
Should be available at Virgin stores, couldn't find it yet at Amazon.
I was able to order through a French site.

If anyone is interested a simple Google search like "Bernard Darniche DVD" should provide enough pointers. Apparantly the comments are also in English...

I've only read one negative comment on this DVD and it relates the biased approach regarding the incident of spectators (or others) putting stones on the road just before the Ford of Waldegaard went through one of the last stages of the 1979 Montecarlo that Darniche won in the Stratos...
Waldregaard was a sure winner prior to this incident but only finished second after it.

I ordered my copy at www.alapage.com here's a link to the product:

Since I don't read French, can anyone tell me if the DVD is an "All Region" disc or European disc. Our players on this side of the pond won't play region specifid discs other than USA (I believe is region 1)

I "think" I may be able to navigate the French site to order one, but may need to rely on one of you for a favor :)

Thanks

Jeff Davison

late edit...

Did a translation for "Toutes" that the seller lists as zone...translate into English "all". So it will play over here.

It looks like it won't be available till the 2nd in June, Is this correct?

Bonjour! Je ne parle pas la Francais - but I think I've just worked my way through the system and ordered and paid for a copy! Since the address part of the order system included Grand Bretagne I guess it may actually get here!! Delivery time is two weeks so I might just get it before the Autosport show! Anyone who wants to drop in to see it is more than welcome!

And hey - they've just sent an email confirming the order - shame it's en Francais! Total cost delivered is €28 - about £20!

Do you have to pay an import tax?

Nope. It's sent from within the EEC there is no tax/duty/vat, and in practice, even items from outside the EEC for low value usually slip through unchallenged! The only times I've been "caught" on Ebay items were high value (declared on the forms so they were insured) or very heavy items. A speedpilot, digital camera and a brake kit for the Spider were the offending items. All came from the USA and I insisted all were insured! Others are willing to risk it but then there is no comeback!

At last, the DVD that was promised to be out for Sept. 2003. From my understanding it says it should work for all "zones" and is in English or French.

I also think the office for F Maze is in Grenoble and that is quite close to me. Might be worth a visit one day to see what he has left lying around that did not make it into the DVD.

Regards,

Your amateur French translater

I have just thought of something else, I have some very short video clips of two of the three Stratos that competed in this years Historic Monte Carle. File sizes are about 3.5MB, how can these be reduced in size?

Tres Bon
Great pictures and sounds, love the gearchange through the box. Some useful close ups on a Group Four dash for those wanting the details on a recent thread.
No comment on the 'Syrup' though. (Apart from when is our Bernard going to go for the full authentic replica!!)

Got Mine Today!!
I'll watch it tonight!

The web site didn't have USA listed but put my fully addy and zip code and city & state using the only US location they listed (US Virgin Islands).

I guess my one semester of Spanish in grade school 40 years ago paid off ! (yeah I know it's a French seller, but all those languages sound alike, don't they?)

Who ever found this, thanks for the heads up. !

Jeff - have you got a region free DVD player or did you manage to specify region 1 when you ordered it? If it plays I know you'lll love it!

According to the item description the zone translated to universal or total (toutes). free. The box does say PAL. We're NTSC here in the US (Never The Same Color)

It didn't work in my 1st gen 5 year old DVD player, BUT it fired right up on my computer. Nice to have an 18" monitor.

Darniche is certainly a character! Great sense of humor and has his head on straight about the realities of rallying. I loved the comments about beating the Italians with their own car!

John B would definately like the interior shots and working explainations of the Gp4 interior.

Great driving footage and some very good historical footage.

VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!!!

I am glad you all enjoyed MY new DVD !!

My copy arrived yesterday and much to Sue's disapointment I watched it twice last night....fortunately ALL five channels were crap !!..

So for complete authenticity this year it looks like I will have to find myself a nice rug with a touch of grey down yhe side's....

Seriously what a great video and as said previously how about beating the 'works' Strato's team.....how embarrasing !!

Cheers

This is listed on the following French site
http://automobile-sportive.imineo.com/

Seems to be available as a 'wmv' file download in either DVD or VHS quality, at 7.99 or 5.99 Euros respectively - although I may be mis-reading the French text

I think your French is ok, the small print does suggest a 1mb internet provider - no prizes for guessing why. My DVD suffered the famous lent/lost syndrome. I think this dvd is essential when building a replica.

I see they haven't listed the Monte run yet, could be due out soon.
