Help !!
What is the difference between the Fiat X19 and Fiat 124 indicator / light / windscreen wiper stalk, as I do not know which type I have.
Are the parking lights normally turned on with a seperate switch or are they turned on the light stalk ??
What powers the up / down of the light motors, I have the drawing by "Sando" (27 Jan. '03), is it by the stalk or by a seperate switch ?
Either my light / indicator stalk is falty or I cannot figure it out. one full day spent on wiring and nothing works !
Is there a drawing available for the Hawlk wiring loom ? I have a wiring diagram for the Transformer 2000 by V.R. Abbott but it does not match my loom. Are they two different type of wiring looms available ?
please help before I loose any more hair - not that I have much left :)

Gerard,
I could be mistaken (as I've not gotten my car to the point of being wired) but I think there is a 3-position switch on the dash board for turning the lights on. First detent is running lights, second is headlights. The stalk controls the bright/dim setting on the headlights.
Of course, this is based on the Lancia Scorpion headlights, which may not be anything like the X1/9 or 124. The switches and stalks all look the same, but there could be a different pinout on the connectors, or other internal differences.
As for the wiring loom - there are a number of possibilities. Aside from the Hawk/Transformer loom, I've been told that some builders use a modified X1/9 loom. It's possible you've got one of those. I'm pretty sure there has been at least one revision to the Hawk loom, but that was fairly recent. A lot of relays were added where there previously hadn't been. It could be that your diagram is of a different revision than the loom in your car.
Not sure if Gerry included a wiring diagram with the loom I bought from him two years ago. If I can find it, I'll let you know.

Hi Gerard - if you can let me know what colour wires there are in each of the multiplugs I will try to work out which does what from the various notes I have - you may have to give me until the weekend though!
The 124 stalk is only two position. There is a separate switch on the dash for side and dip with the second position of the stalk controlling main beam.
The X1.9 stalk is three position with the dash switch giving side and the stalk dip and main beam. By mixing the two I have side and dipped on the switch with main beam on the second stalk and the spotlamps (4) on the third stalk position.
It is VERY important that the power feeds for the lights do not run through the stalks as they will burn them out in time. Use the stalks to control power to the lights through relays. There should also be a power feed that runs to the headlamp motor relays when the lights are on, but I guess you already know that! Half the trick is working out the route through the stalks, after that, tracing which wire goes to the headlamps ought to be straight forward with a continuity tester.
Please don't take this the wrong way - but have you tried running a power lead to the back of the headlamp to check that the filaments are ok and that the earth strap is connected? Sometimes I can't see the woods for the trees!
Cheers
Guy

Just to confuse you....
Mine uses a 124 stalk which has 3 positions side/dip/beam, whilst the dash switch is simply an on/off which raises and lowers the lights this must also turn on the power to the stalk I guess because the lights only come on in the raised position.

I may have been wrong about the 3-position switch on the dash, then. I guess there's a number of ways it could be done, depending on which combination of switches and stalks you have.
I'll have to head out to the garage and see what actually is on my Scorpion, just to make sure I didn't misspeak earlier.
Anybody know what switch / stalk positions the genuine article uses? Now I'm curious...

Hi Gerard
I'm presuming you're a club member here but if not it would be well worth joining just for this.......
The Enthusiasts (Replica then) Club Newsletter browser CD has a great article by Guy on this in newsletter 48. If you've got the CD search for Stalks and pick issue 48. It goes into both types of stalks and all the wiring colours. I followed this, and apart from not poping the lights to flash (still a job to do) it worked first time.
hope that helps

Hi Again
I'm speaking with fork tongue... that article was about stalks but was for the wipers. I'll keep looking because I know I followed someones directions / diagram.

I remember writing that after hours trying to sort them out myself but some credit has to go to Roger Donnan who sorted it out in one of the earliest newsletter. All I did was reiterate his article after comparison to two differently color coded stalk sets.
However, sorting out the wiper wire colours eliminates some of them leaving the indicators and washer jets to be done!

Gerard - you've defeated me! I have looked at the column stalks on the Stratos and the 124 and neither seems to match the colours you described on the phone the other night! (bloody Italian electrics!) I have looked through my (poor) notes from when I rewired the car and can't understand them anymore so I don't think I'm going to be much help to you without your stalks on my garage floor to compare them with the Stratos ones. If you want to send them across I would be happy to look at them and send them back. If anyone else wants to try to give some advice please jump in!
The colours described by Gerard on his stalks are as follows, starting at 12 o'clock and working clockwise around the terminal pins on the stalks as follows
Dark Blue
Light Blue joined to Green
Purple, Green/Black and Light Blue/Black all joined
Yellow/Black
Grey/Black
Red/Grey
Green
White
White/Black
Yellow
Grey
Yellow/Black
Red
Brown
Purple
Grey/Red
Gerard, if you could check and confirm the colours or better yet, post a clear picture we may be able to move forwards with this!
